Sound crashes...

Hi everyone.. Time ago i bought a sound blaster live 5.1, worked perfect with KX 5.10.00.3537 'till now..
Here's the thing.. When i first boot the pc, sound works normal (guitar rig, cakewalk, winamp, windows media player, games, everything) but after a few minutes, the sound crashes... there's no audio on games, on videos, on websites, on guitar rig and the multimedia keys on keyboard stop working too (except the power button).. and when i try to open the sound mixer (the windows default) it says that there's no sound device installed :S

very strange uh? the other thing.. the first minutes of work (after reboot) for example with nuendo, i have no problems, even if sound crashes, it keeps working fine, but when i close nuendo crashes like i said... multimedia keys wont work, audio on videos too, and all that...

funny thing... some other softwares works even when the sound crashes... winamp for example, team speak but the others wont...

i formatted the harddrive, unable the motherboard's soundcard, unplugged the keyboard (just in case), but nothing works..

Are you still using 3537?
Check the Windows Event Viewer. It sounds like something is causing problems with the 'Windows Audio' service. If so, you can set the recovery options for the service, such that the service automatically restarts itself, but that would just be a workaround, and you should look into what is causing the problem in the first place.

You reformatted your hard drive? Did you reinstall Windows (or are you talking about a different hard drive)? If so, then I would look into hardware problems as a possible cause (assuming that you are still using 3537, and that it has worked without problems up until now). Try reseating your sound card. If you have any diagnostic software than you might test your memory, etc. as well.

ok... i did what u said about checking the events and found a process called wumdf.exe (Windows User Mode Driver Framework).. that has something to do about windows media player and since i unabled it, everything works great again.. so i guess that was it...

about your edit, i did reformatted/reinstall windows...

ok... problem solved.. somehow the windows audio disabled himself.. so i enabled it and end of problem ^^

If you continue to have problems, please make a new post (in this thread if it is related), instead of just editing the above post, so that I/we know to look in here.

i.e. Once that you say that the problem is solved, people do not tend to check back in on the thread, unless they see a new post.

In any case, keep an eye on it, and let us know if it happens again (and please verify which version of kX you are currently using).
