grumble...dell...grrr...
Well I started smelling some interesting smells out of my current CRT. Hot glue smells to be precise...and in fact I was watching the glue melt in the back of my monitor and the whistling just getting WORSE...and WORSE. Anyway Sony is off my list of acceptable companies at the moment.
So I saw this sale on dell LCDs. They had a 20" widescreen that was $231 after 20% discount. The trouble is that it didnt have the rotating display thingy (and then later i found out its a TN display so thats REALLY not happening). So I was talking to a dell representative and she was like "well its only $50 more for the 2007wfp!" to which I was like "hot damn!" so I went on and ordered it and used my 20% off coupon. I get the bill and its $350!!!! That is NOT what I was promised. So I checked...apparently she was thinking that the 20% off would be taken off its list price right now. Unfortunately its list price is AFTER a 15% discount. And the rest of the amount is tax (Which they charge BEFORE the discount). So basically you get taxed for the $400 display and then have 20% taken off (because they dont stack discounts). so it comes out to be around $350.
...grrrrrrrrrr. So yea. I got billed WAY more than I was expecting and now its created problems with my budget. not HUGE problems, but problems nonetheless.
I really dislike these days how I have to watch every company like a hawk. There was a time when some things I could just buy and not worry so much about the price...but now they'll tell you one price and charge you a VERY DIFFERENT price. Isn't that like bait and switch? I mean I was told it was only $50 more...

Ask questions... I always ask the before price, the after taxes price, and aftering shipping and all the bells and whistles are taken in price.. then i ask for a quote to be sent by email clearly showing how all the discounts and coupons and everything are add in.
Phone em back, and start bitching.

Na Zardon, I concur with you... Nobody beats dell for laptops imho! I mean, they are rigid and robust as hell! I've dropped, soaked and burnt mine but it still runs
Only Alienware looks better than dell but that's out of most people's cost range...

I like dells Monitors...
As far as the computer systems go, i only recommend them if the people don't want my own, as they ask me what i think is the best "prebuilt" which imo, is dell, but dammit, they are shittay.

I can't stand dell desktops...or their marketting practices [sell crap in bulk in order to drive profits up]
Ther higher end stuff is top notch though, and aside from the cheap latitude piles of crap, their laptops are excellent....they are the WORST about installing junk software though...my god.
As for what happened to you gemini...shame on youf or ordering over the phone, is all I have to say

You think? the latitudes where the only laptops to pass testing standards in a strict independent testing regime in the UK last year. they dropped them from heights, exposed them to extreme heat and cold, and the only one that passed was a latitude. sony, alienware, hewlett packard, the list goes on and on. all failed.
Latitudes IMO are some of the best business laptop machines you can get , if you get the right model. I think dell get a bad press, some of it is justified yes, they are so large - customer service tends to suffer, but honestly I think they turn out a really decent product range overall.
Of course this is just all talk, everyone who deals with a company who turns out xx million computers a year will have a different experience, im obviously just going on my own in work and a laptop I had of theirs years ago, which is still working perfectly fine when a sony one died with much less abuse and with a much shorter life span...
you speak to anyone about a certain company there will always be an issue somewhere down the line, but obviously the larger the company, the more sales..... the higher percentage of issues.....

I was looking around online for who would have the best gaming laptop that wasn't rediculously priced. Kept comin back to Dell so I think that is the way I will go when I'm done with my training. Hopefully DX10 will be stable and there will be some good mobile cards out

I like their monitors (which is why I was attempting to purchase one) and their 3 year waranties...and their lattitudes actually. I got one for my grandpa which is ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC! It made me rethink taking apple up on their refund (they screwed me around so much taht I asked for my money back and they agreed...but then everything got fixed so I didnt take it) it was super light and had a great battery life and wasnt ugly...and it had a built in 3G modem. I just popped my sim card in and it worked. I wasnt even AWARE that they had built in 3g modems for laptops yet. It was insane but there you have it. We didnt even order a sim card slot (and nowhere in the specs was it described. just came with the lat)
But...they REALLY pissed me off.
Besides I got a better deal on an acer which isn't quite as good but its a good deal larger.
