AIW X800XL PCIE recorder freezing
All in Wonder X800XL PCIE recording freezing or not initializing
I tryed to use guideplus to record several shows during the day and when i get homeat night the tv is on but frozen. I have tryed formatting and reinstalling software same thing occurs, most time sound is muffled too when recording. I have researched this and the closest thing to help i have found is some peoples are saying that net framework is to blame and not to install it.
Also using the card i am using what are the latest updates i shoud have for catalyst and mmx that work with my x800xl pcie card, also does windows sp1 work better.
right now I am runing windows xp SP2.
Catalyst 511 and mmx 9.09
Anyone can help, this is anoying whats up ATI?
Lanpart utility cd nF4 Ver.003, DFI UT nF4 Ultra D
AMD Athlon 3800+64x2 D.Core Box
thanxs in advance

Have you tried using software other than GuidePlus and MMC for recording? Try the demo of BeyondTV

I did download beyond tv and tryed it ant the software allmost seemed to stabilize the AIW tv recordings. I just finished reinstalling windows xp and the nforce drivers but not the net framework this time, tried recording and it the tv froze on me while recording.
I never really tryed using beyond tv for recording though. Why though when i want to record TV and i launch the program anytime the computer has been on for a long time do i here all that white noise, conflict?? I have to restart computer in order to reset the volume to be herd clearely this has been an ongoing problem.
Should i upgrade to latest mmca catalyst, i currently have 9.09 and cat 511 x800xl or is there another card out there like the all in wonder that can do tv recordingon the fly.
thanxs for any input

There are dedicated TV tuners like the Hauppage TV Tuners that many users here have switched to and will swear by.
As for the software/MMC thing... go BACK to the original stuff on the CD and see how that works for you I can nearly guarantee you'll have better results than what you're getting now

I was gonna ask why you were using those version BUT most of use have different driver setup especially for these cards...most of us use older or modded drivers becasue newer ones don't operate properl..have you tried newer ones?

Well starting now the modded drivers are getting less and less AiW friendly but at least some come sans WDM's so you can pick your own.

I know the if it's not broke don't fix it rule..really applies to the AIW's but I was wondering if you have tried the 6.9's or 6.10 betas yet H3X?

Get yourself a WinTV-PVR 150 or 250.
You will save yourself alot of aggravation.

6.9 works great on my setup so it seems I haven't tested in games only TV, PIP, Video-which all seems fine. I don't like messing with MMC's as they are extremley touchy in my rig. Have you tried 9.15 H3X?

9.15 is abysmal. Its even worse since I've reformatted which is telling in a way.

Just for future reference:
I found that the recorder is more stable if I install Guide Plus first then install that, and I DON'T install that Unified Component Installer (UCI) thing off the site (ignore the warnings). It was almost stable enough to be usable

Really you don't need the UCI?. Maybe if a person just installs the exact minimum components it will work. I thought you had to install UCI?

UCI apparantly isn't needed, it just installs some crap I have anyway (and Windows media encoder which I don't want!)

so then exactly what is needed? BTW H3x I am using 6.9's finally. remeber that 640X480 issue wellit's gone. I was worried about installing newer drivers especially when it's a AIW...but you know my luck!..so everything is good still have my dual tuner config. I was thinking maybe all these extra modules like UCI and such help amking a unstable install and crappy MMC setup. SO your saying you should just be able to install MMC ONLY? but if you want to do some encoding then UCI is needed?

Were it me I'd just capture in the default MPG2 format then convert it using another program rather than doing it on the fly. Time consuming, but more reliable and more configurable.
As for what exactly is needed... the bare minimum... .NET, DirectX, the DVDDecoder and that's it. WM9ENC package is only needed for direct capture to WM9
