Vista with AIW?
I'm thinking about going to Vista RC1 but was wondering whether the AIW (9600Pro) TV and S-video input would work on it either with the ATI software or with other software.
Thanks!
I searched but did not manage to find anything regarding this specific topic. If there has already been a thread, please feel free to point me in the right direction.

The inbuilt media centre should in theory work fine. I use the T550 with it fine, so no reason why an AIW would be any different.

Thanks for the reply, how do you view an S-video or composite input using the media center? I remember trying last time with Beta2, but not even finding any mention of that.

I tried doing things with my AiW in Vista pre-RC1 and I found it horribly abysmal, so you may want to consider doing this on a week where you've got nothing to do but tool around with it.

Okay, I installed RC1 and though the thing works pretty well as a whole, I'm afraid that so far the AIW does not have any functionality at all. The device is only detected as ntativrv01 and there are no drivers for it. The catalyst package doesn't install any drivers. Hopefully it will be solved eventually...

This is kind of on topic, I was wondering about this system and Vista so I tried the Upgrade advisor and it said BOTH my cards would be fine the AIW 9600 and the TV tuner...But getting them to work will be another story. I will be trying it later so I will let you know...

It's there..here try it out...it downloads a small app to your system though...
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvist...r/default.mspx
but it's not that accurate..it missed my DVD drive and said I would need to install one before I could run Vista,,,after you install it run it and it'll tell you which Vista Flavor is best for your rig...or what it thinks anyway....like any of us are gonna use anythng other than ultimate? hope this helps.

To go back to the S-video question. When you go through TV config it lets you choose the input.

It won't show up for him... I just tried this at a friends house with Vista and an AiW X800XL PCI-E and it doesn't work with the 6.8's

When you say 6.8's, do you just mean the Vista RC1 drivers or do you mean you're using the XP 6.8's on Vista? Does it actually let you install those?

Definitely FWIW...
ATI left out the T200 driver from the RC1 beta driver release. If you had the older beta driver installed RC1 will install the T200 automatically -- otherwise can install the earlier driver and update or install just the WDM portion. However, it mucks up other driver installations so you probably don't want the T200 installed until everything else is working.
With nothing else besides the driver & T200 installed, no ATI encoder or MCE stuff etc., AIW video should be available at least in apps like Virtual Dub's capture, and capture does work. The stumbling block in my case keeping me from taking it further is no audio inputs available, and media features in Vista like MCE etc won't work without audio.
The page says no recording with the Creative beta drivers for the Audigy2, and while Vista shows the inputs in the Control Panel applet, they're all noted as unavailable. The onboard Realtek AC650 AC97 is the same way. However don't know if this is because of Vista, drivers, or my hardware?

Yeah with a bit of finagling I got it to accept them, didn't use the installer package for it though

None of the solutions in this thread got the capture driver working for me in Vista, unfortunately. I really really really hope ATI releases some sort of Vista compatible driver before the whole AIW process is finished completely.

YOu know what I just thought is ATI is discontinuing the AIW line...so they may never create drivers for the VISTA OS...lets hope they do!..

I've heard rumblings that they won't, the XP drivers might get ported but nothing new will get written AFAIK

I got the S-video input to work! And it actually works better than it ever did on XP (better quality, no sync issues). I'm running RC1, and basically just installed the RC1 drivers not using the installer, but cancelling out of it and manually updating the files by pointing vista to the files left by the installer.
I'm displaying the input using AMCap.

IF your having difficulties with the MMC tuner try another app. Like KM player, CHris TV or VLC all these contain WDM TV options so you can get your tv working, so are more powerful then other and somerequire alot more setting up then others. Of course there is alwasy media player classic...hope that helps.
