after trying Shadowwars 2 and not really liking it, deleting it, my dvd-rom is just incapable of playing my Warcraft 3 cd
its not even showing the red searchlight on the dvd-rom itself, and my pc runs SLOW! when the cd is in... and its searching..
does anyone has an option for this maybe?

Try the starforce remover. Go on googe and type starforce remover / uninstaller and you'll get an app that mostly cleans out your PC.

Probably your drive is set to PIO (I had the same problem), this damaged my drive, and now it cant read properly anymore. I emailed Starforce about this, but they said it was my problem, and not theirs

you know I dont mind copy protection on games but starforce is worse than having 400 viruses on your machine. this software should be BANNED and the company who make it should be shutdown. everyone should get together and form a lawsuit to force the company to replace the drives this has destroyed. I wont even install a game now with it on the disc.

I've yet to play a game that 'featured' starforce. And from all the bad news about it, I'll be staying away from those games.

I've had Starforce kill 2 of my writer drives.....only one was recovered with a firmware flash.

Starforce killed PC gaming for me. I don't buy PC games at all anymore, Flatout 2 was the last, and that was in question until it was determined NOT to contain SF in the American version. I've gotten burnt already by buying a game, booting it up and finding out it had SF in it. When that happens, I immediately lose all interest for the game.

I'm strongly considering going back to consoles for my gaming. At least they don't virus those out with crapware like Starforce. I haven't had a console since the PS1....

I refuse to buy anything with Star Force. Usually I Google around to see if anyone else knows if it has Star force before I buy. I saw SF ruin my friend's new shiny Plextor external DVD burner Not cool at all

I've never installed a game that had this crap on it (to my knowledge). I expect that's because I just don't have time to play a ton of games and I only get a new one maybe 2-3 times a year. Oblivion is the most recent thing I've purchased. Prior to that it was NWN. hehehe.

What I don't understand though, if sooo many people have such a HUGE problem with this supposed copy protection system why hasn't a large law suit been placed against the dev? If it's really eating that many drives, and it sounds like it does from what everyone here says, I can't believe that some tech lawyer somewhere doesn't jump all over the opportunity to make some bucks.

??
