yes - you can load different SF's into different banks in the KX SF manager - right click on trayicon - KX soundfont - then whan you add a sf - you can it will ask which bank - additionally (something the APS DIDNT do) is have different OR same banks shared between the 2 synths.
Refer to the KX help for more info. (KX Mixer section- soundfonts)

Also - this setting can be saved - learn how 'SAVE SETTINGS' works - as its different - but if you want ONLY SF config saved - keep only SF config checked and it will ONLY save that part - or it can be part of a global setting - or just with DSP config - etc...
I found the KX settings a bit confusing at first.

If KX mixer loads at startup - you should see a 'tray icon' for it - next to the computers time.

OR load the KX mixer via the start menu and navigate to the soundfont applet. Or better yet - use windows explorer and find the KX installation and thus its help file .

You need to do this first - if you cant you have a different problem.
Did you disbale any startup items (as in 'system optimization') ?

Why don't you just use Vienna to create custom soundfonts?
Vienna works fine with kX too. (just a few issues)

[edit]
FYI:
kX does not support dynamic SF Instrument loading.
CL and APS drivers do.
So using vienna is the only way here.

@Lex: V3538 (h & J) does support dynamic loading - as in sonar loading project - and loading sf's for that project. clearing sf cache after closing the project etc...

But yes - I just noticed saving *SF settings only* in KX dont seem to work... I could have swore Ive done this before..?? *scratches head*

But you can still save and restore SF config along with mixer/DSP settings in KX - I DO have some with more banks filled (for DAW recording) and another for DAW mixdown (no SF loaded and more memory available for audio operations) - so it does work at some level .

Unless Im not understanding your statements ??

Yes, I think you misunderstood.
Dynamic SF Instrument loading (aka dynamic patch loading through Vienna Extensions) is not the same as basic SF file loading.

The latter has always been(at least since 3534) supported by kX ofcourse.
3538 allows loading SF Files>32mb but that doesn't mean you can actualy
play those >32mb soundfont data at a time.
(personaly I don't see the use in loading >32mb sf files just to find out
that half of the notes won't play )

The first however, enables you to load SF *Instruments* from several different Soundfont files into SF memory cache without having to load the entire soundfont file(s).
The advantages are obvious.

Like I mentioned;
CL and APS do support the full Vienna extensions while kX doesn't.

/Lex.

hi maddogg

thanks for the pic.........i have been here several times.do i enter a bank number here or will kx assign no.?

i ask this because in the picture in the top box where it says MERLIN XP it gives bank as 2............when i load banks they are all assigned as bank 0............

if i cant make user bank what is easiest way to load banks for each midi track in cubase 5.01 r6?

this is really bugging me as i used to have this system working perfectly with emu drivers until i got virus.....the emu drivers wont load in windows so i had to use kx...............i have bought a new pc which i am not putting on net with cubase sx and emu emulator-x.............the only drawback being that old files wont swap fully from vst into sx..ie velocity doesnt work etc

thanks again mark c

Yes - input a bank # there - KX doesnt automatically increment this - you have to type in the # your self everytime - it always defaults to bank 0.

But as Lex was pointing out - there is a 32MB limit - so my example in that pic was not a good one. Not to mention that multi-bank SF's will cause you headaches.

KX has a VSTi (callled 'KXsfi') that allows loading of SF on a per project basis, its use is pretty self explanitory - add the KXsfi - and it allows loading multiple banks of SF which would be saved with the project. This should work for just about any VST(i) capable host. But I think it conflicts in SX3 for me because of the built in SF manager it has (shown here
http://fileanchor.com/43292.gif )which does work for me btw, I think its a bit buggy tho. - But Im FAR from a cubase expert.

Maybe you can re-install VST - export your projects as standard midi files and re-import into SX.

@:Lex - Ahh - ok - thanks - that makes sense - I seen mention of the 32MB limit - but never understood what it was about.

@maddog,
Np. I thought the OP was refering to real dynamic sf patch loading.
He's not,.. so I'll leave him to you.

Cheers...

A better program is "Soundfont Librarian" very simple drag and drop.
