acoustic management slowing down MAXTOR HDD
i get a performance tip in sisoft sandra for my maxtor HDD tha acoustic management is enabled and performance may be impaired,i did a google search and i found a utility named AMSET tha disables the acoustic management,i extracted it in a DOS boot disc as it says in the reame but when i nsert the commends in DOS mode it doesnt find any maxtor drive,has anyone disabled acoustic management in his maxtor drive please help

Have a look amongst Maxtors own utilities. They should have one for that. It's the seek performane that is lowered by accoustics management, but usually not by much.

I think that the Hitachi Feature Tool is able to enable/disable AAM on Maxtor drives too.

AAM performance mode (which I believe is the default for these) shows very little difference from AAM off.
SANDRA likes to find something to bitch about, like your BIOS being old.
