To run vista you will need fairly high end hardware, is your machine good enough now?
Do you think its good enough now to handle it ?

If mine is too weak, then Vista is just overkill...

I bet it can, especially after seeing that you have two 80 cm fans in your case. Your overclock headroom must be huge with that kind of cooling.
....I'm just messing with you my friend, i know its a typo

Should be no problem here, all though i only have 1 gig of ram, I'm guessing 2gig is preferred for vista.
But gonna wait for my upgrade to ddr2, before going for 2gigs

I'm not running it until 2008 so my current hardware does not matter.

By the time it comes out my rig will be fine I am sure- but that doesn't mean I will be running any bloatware OS on my gaming rig.

No way on the current desktop machine - great excuse to build a new one early next year after the dual core battles settle a bit and the mainboards mature some...
The Mac should do ok...

nope, not a hope I would say.
not worried, I'm happy enough with xp pro atm, can't think of any reason why I'd want vista for now.

Do you really think that micro$oft will release an operating system that will require a massive machine spec to be run on?
I dont think so, it would be against all business logic. I would presume that it will run on all but the most basic of setups, but some of the features would be disabled. Saving these for the higher spec'd machines.
I also would be very doubtful that it would require a DX10 Class graphics card as nobody has one of those yet, meaning that on release nobody would be able to run it!!
Why have Vista when you can have LINUX anyway?
lol.... watch those sheep!!

Well when they released windows XP, the requirements then were quite high too if you look at it in hindsight. double the memory of Windows 98. that caused quite a fuss at the time.

Nah, it doesnt require a DX10 card to run but DX10 itself is exclusive to Vista. Also there quite a few nice games that will require Vista and/or DX10 -Halo 2, Alan Wake, and Hellgate London are just a few that come to mind.

You're right it needed 64mb to run when 98's min spec was 32, but most machines were running more than that at the time anyway, it was the older P1 and P2 class machines that had the problems. Looking at some of the replies here, you would think that min requirements will be 2 gig memory, dual core processor DX10 class gfx etc... come on get real guys. I suspect that min specs will be around 1.4ghz cpu, 1024mb memory & 128mb DX8 class graphics card.
you will probably need at least a 300gb hdd though to get all the bloat on there!!
