Russ has a spectacular aura aboutRuss has a spectacular aura aboutRuss has a spectacular aura about

Hi dj_stick,
I keep trying to evaluate this to provide some useful feedback, but honestly it is a little hard to do. It is really long, and it is not really my style of music (and again, I do not think that my speakers do it justice).

There is some good stuff in there, but it seems to me, to be more like the backing track of some other song (maybe that is just because it is not my style of music). i.e. I think it needs something to break it up a bit (vocals, melody, something), as it seems to get a little monotonous (doesn't hold my attention). It reminds me a little bit of Industrial Metal, like the Electric Hellfire Club or something, but missing components like vocals (not necessarly singing vocals), and guitar, etc. I am not really sure what you were going for here, so it is hard to give feedback, but I think it would be better if you added some more components to the song, or changed it up a little more often. In any case, it is just my opinion, which is probably based heavily on the style of music that I listen to the most...

trevbushell is on a distinguished road

hi dj,

i understand this type of music a little better and think youve done a good job for what it is intended for... clubs! it would work well, not sure about the little thing going on in the middle with the wierd vocals and drum riff that seems to clash (it sounds like another song has got mixedup in the mix acciodently) but yep this would go down fine in a english club.
good mixing too!

Give the man a Break!
The title says it all, it is experimental, so we don't need be hard. Anyway I think any comment (positive or negative) is for good.

>stick< keep up! I've noticed that you are mostly composing electronic acid and I'd like to ask you what are your influences. I was in this style of music many years ago and really liked the sound of "Hardfloor". Do you use any replica of TB303(like rb338) I found it really good.
Keep up the work and try to make your tracks have something special, I mean acid has a "bad" character so try to emphasise this. An acid sound has got 5 parameters(cutoff, reso, env.modulation, decay & accent) as most sounds do and if you keep them running you'll have a better result to your experiment.

(EDIT)
to give you an example I set up an acid track just using RB338, recorded live while I was playing with the knobs. Nothing special but it keeps the acid interesting. And don't forget this is all my poor opinion...

click download on retroacid(on the playlist that appears)

cheers

I use Audiorealism Bassline (well worth the money) to emulate a 303, but in that track the "acid" line was mostly an ES1 patch, with a few accented notes from Bassline

I'm working on a mix of this track atm which really puts the 303 sound to the test - it really screams at some points

i'll upload a sample when i'm happy with it

btw i took a listen to your retro acid sample, nice use of rebirth there - you used a little distortion didn't you?

I never really listened to any acid type music before, so I was not sure what it is supposed to sound like (and was only trying to provide basic feedback, based on my own personal taste in music). Anyway, I searched the internet and listened to a few songs of that genre, and they all seemed very similair (as to the flow of the song) as your song, so I guess my previous comments do not really apply to this music genre (it just was not what I was expecting). I did not mean it to sound like I did not like the current components of the song, because I do, I think it is actually pretty good, I just thought it sounded incomplete (and BTW: I had the same thought about the other acid style songs that I listened to), because I was relating it to a different music genre.

stamvas: i copied the link into internet explorer- it worked there, opera just loaded geocities

Russ: I see where you're coming from, my gf doesn't really like acid, she calls it boring, and my track was more of a hybrid of hard trance and acid, but I can see where you're coming from - It's one of those genres you have to have an aquired taste for

ok one sample gone, here's one to replace it

303 theory sample

this is a sample of the "true" acid mix i mentioned earlier, not mixed very well, as it's still a work in progress

EDIT:
I've done a "complete" mix and posted in a new thread here
