Best Sound Card for Recording, etc

Hey, everyone.
One of my friends wants a new sound card for recording, music creation, etc, since he's going into the music business.
I know that the Creative X-Fi is a good card, but would it be good to do these particular types of things? Or is some other card better?
Thanks in advance and sorry for the newbish questions, I just don't keep up with the sound industry.
Regards,
-fobis
