is there other settings i have to do to set up midi?

having problems using midi in cubase.

Here's what im experiencing and what i've done.

I loaded soundfonts in the kxmixer, i also tried that program in cubase to load the soundfont in bank 1.

If i use my s90 as in and for output i put for example the vsti program to load the soundbank. I can't hear any output doing this.
However, if i change output to GS wavetable, it works perfectly fine though i have latency problems.

How do i fix this? I want to use other soundfonts not just the GS one
