Suggestion for a notebook purchase?

Hey guys, I'm thinking of purchasing another laptop in about another year or so, I was wondering if I could get some suggestions on companies to look into.

What I would like in the laptop is:
at least 2 gb of ram
at least a 128mb memory video card
at least 1.86 ghz centrino processor or that duo centrino thing that just came out
80-100 gb of hard drive

price range about 1500 to 2000.

any company suggestions? the ones I've looked into already are PowerPRO(built on Asus), Dell, Alienware, Acer, and Sager

centrino is not a processor, more a platform
look for "core duo" or "pentium m" when looking at a laptop

most of the guys in the know here recommend dell laptops for various reasons, so take a look at their offerings

Asus is pretty good. I've got a Z70VA with a 2.0GHz Pentium M, 2 GB RAM, 100 GB 5400 RPM HD, 128 MB ATI X700 and some other stuff from Geared2Play.com. Their prices are reasonable and their customer service is excellent. With Asus, there are 2 types of models available: The "Built On Asus" series which you can configure the cpu, hd, memory; The "Ensemble" series which are preconfigured already. There are a new models coming out with Core Duo and better graphics cards, so you like those better.

I'm familiar with Dells and have used and repaired them with good results - and their software updates (at least for my C610 in the sig...) have been good - I would recommend them...

However, to get more performance for the money, you might want to look at Gateway's lineup - they just refreshed their lineup and offer Core Duo processors in both the Home/Home Office and Business models... If I were buying today - I'd actually take a chance on a Gateway (decent graphics too...).

Incorrect. The Pentium-M is a centrino, and Dell is the only company who still calls them the Pentium-M, and actually, they dropped the moniker finally with the launch of the Core-Duo, which is essentially a Centrino-D

As for 2 GBs of RAM....find one with 1 GB and add RAM to it and you'll come out MUCH cheaper.

I am a huge fan of Sony laptops, altho the T-series is a pile of crap and breaks way too often to be worth a damn. Look at a high-end FS series.

Although, for what you sound like you want, the Toshiba Qosmio is going to be the wasy to go for you.

I'd suggest you might as well look at IBM/Lenovo laptops too while you are at it. When I had their prices were about par with Dell's own if you know which/what you want and poke around a little
