??? What Monitor Do You Use????

Hey,

I am looking into upgrading my monitor over the next couple weeks and am at a crossroads about LCD or CRT. I like the picture quality on CRT as it is still superior to LCD, but i love the space saving and size options of LCD monitors. Seems like a trade off I was wanting to hear evreyones opinion / experiance with their monitors, and perhaps any suggestions they might have.

So lets hear it..

What monitor do you use? And what are the Pros & Con's?

I have a 22" Samsung SyncMaster 1100DF CRT. Games and movies just look great on it. Also has a max resolution of 2048 x 1536 @ 100 Hz. I don't carry it that high too. One drawback is the sucker is huge and heavy.

A couple of months ago I was looking around for another CRT since I was and still am unhappy about some aspects of LCD technology, but as decent mid-range alternatives disappeared from the market I felt that I couldn't afford one of the really good CRTs. So I began looking for widescreen LCD's in order to get a little something extra for surrendering to the LCD market. I was lucky to find that Viewsonic had just released their VA1912W(B) budgetline 19" widescreen. After reading up on user reactions over at WideScreen Gaming Forum I decided to bet on it. I'm glad I did since even with the things I dislike LCD technology for this screen is certainly good enough for me to use for a couple of years. The panel buttons feel cheap and the speakers makes it look bulky but the display itself is good. By all means go for something more expensive if you have the cash, especially a full 24bit color variant. But if you need something of good value the VA1912W(B) is worth considering, and widescreen works very well with most games today.

i'm really likeing the Acer AL1951.... excellent quality.... pretty good 1280x1024 native resolution.... excellent responce time... (8ms, although some shop sites report it as 4ms). Damn bright and crip, I have a samsung syncmaster 900IFT which is even higher quality then the 1100DF monitor... and imo, aside from the slightly noticeably larger dot pitch comparibility, the color and reproduction is unbeleiveable using a DVI connection...

plus it has a built in stereo speakers that imo, produce a reasonably decent sound.. nothing steller..

I use a Gateway FPD2185w TFT LCD 21" 1680x1050 native, HD-ready with DCDI by faroudja video processing, DVI-D with HDcp support.

I been using it since it cameout, I have my gamecube plugged into the component input for 480p. I dont notice any ghosting, I dont have blacklight and bleeding problems.

Yea mine is also bright and crisp and the colors made me faint heh it woke my eyes up if you get what I mean.

It contrast is 1000:1 8ms, it has vga,dvi,s-video,compsite and component input plus a 4 usb 2.0 hub. I been very happy with it too.

i was a crt fan until i got my samsung 204b. the iq is just amazing & it has a very fast response time.
my wife & i both had nice 19" crts but after looking at mine for a week or so she said enough! & made me get her a lcd to. i got her a dell 19". she is very happy with it!.
basically price is going to be your determiming factor. that & the vid card to drive it.
if you can afford $500 then get the 204b, especially if you are into 1st person shooters. as i said above the iq & response time are awsome.
if you are in the $250 -$300 range then i would look at 19" dell or samsung. if you are spending less then drop down t oa 17" monitor.
bty, dont buy anything over a 12ms response if you play any sort of action games.

I have a benq 19" T905. It has fast response, is light as a feather, and i got it for a pretty good price at $369 cad. Only downside is its 450:1 contrast ratio...its blacks especially are not nearly as deep as they were with my old crt.

I'm still using CRTs. On my main computer I have a NEC 21" MultiSync E1100+ AND a 19" Hitachi SuperScan Elite 751. These are both USED CRTs that I picked up and are working and looking fantastic. The Hitachi was $129 and the NEC was $30.

You likely won't find these in your area unless there are some large computer outlets and retailers in your area.

I'm assuming you're looking for NEW, though.

I've got an older 19" Sony Multiscan 400PS. Was a top end CRT in its day, supports multiple inputs and is crystal clear.

Just Picked up Acer AL1951C WITH 4MS Response time. Looks good, saves space, no ghosting so far. So I am happy with it. Just swiched from samsung 997bf 19"CRT. LCD is more vivid with higher contrast.

Have a viewsonic PF790. Got it for 5 years, no problem except for desk space. Still not ready to switch to LCD like others. I liake the possibility to switch resolution without having to fear for horrible conversion result...
