radeon x700se
i bought the x700se 512mb pci-express two days ago and got it today and installing it so far has given me nothing but a headache, i've uninstalled, reinstalled, tried different versions, everything, i've tried most from 5.5 to 6.3 and still get the same thing, heres the main problem,
when i run catlyst center, in the 3d settings, it just makes the computer die pretty much, i have to restart it, etc, and when i try to play one of my games, same thing, when i'm walking w/ no gun, it's fine, if i choose a gun, then it decides to quit.. i have no clue what could be making this happen.. any ideas?

Power? Normally I wouldn't jump to that...as your issues sound odd...but that's what I'd think about first.
Then...run driver cleaner? Get out all the bits from those various installs and try something like the 5.11? Maybe not the catalyst control center, just the core driver.

so i should put in a new power supply? it's a fairly new computer, got it last july, hp a1130n, media center, not sure which version, but it's got sp2, amd athlon 3500+ x64 cpu, msi something motherboard, 1 gig ram, 250gig hd, dvd writer, dual layer, light scribe,
i liked the old video card that was in it, it was ati x200
but i wanted a better one mainly for the fps on america's army.. i ran the ati tool some and just clocked the core, i think it got to 448 or somewhere around there.. booted up aa, it worked offline, went online and it went down.. so i'm getting closer than i was..lol
btw, i just checked my ps, it's only 300 w
and, what would be a nice, inexpensive ps to get? i dont' want to fry my computer, but i'm somewhat balling on a budget..lol

this is the card i got: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...509&CatId=1826
DiabloTek Radeon X700 Super / 512MB DDR2 / PCI Express / DVI / VGA / TV-Out / Video Card
i got it mainly because me and my wife use the computer alot watching movies seeing as how we can hook the surround sound up via the digital out, and the computer up to the tv, never had problems with that, but i play aa alot so i wanted something w/ a higher fps.. i know it's not one of the best out there but pretty sure it'll get the job done..lol
when i did get it to work for a few minutes it was at 120 fps or so, but that wasn't online, still have to try that out.. but about the power supply, do you think a 350watt would do it or would i need to go up to 400?

I have the HP A1130N (secondary PC). You will need to upgrade power supply. When I had my X800XL in there it kept freezing, rebooting, etc...

do you think if i unplugged my 2nd dvd rom, and possibly the usb ports for the printer, etc would that give it enough to power the vid card? or would it be safer to just buy a new ps?

I don't think unpluging all that would help.your maxed out on the power that your PS can handle, you just need more then it can supply.Time to take the case apart and put a bigger one in.Just watch what plugs you unhook and when you put your new PS in put the plugs in the same spot If you can change a flat tire on your car...you can change a PS

That depends on how money you want to spend LOL I would at least get a 430W PS mine runs it just fine. I would open up the case, and mesure it,that will give you an idea. Most are about the same mesurement.

and even managed to get a new monitor out of it..lol
getting a 19" dell lcd..
i've got an acer 17" right now, but some pixels are starting to go out..
does the dvi slot on the vid cards make much of a difference w/ these monitors?

Don't know about the Dvi slots...you mean the connectors in the back? I don't think it would matter. What power supply did you get? I managed to buy a few things today alos LOL going to build another PC This one's going to be a mini tower.

That should be fine - I have a generic 450W power supply, and that runs my X700 just fine!!!

i guess i've posted more on my own thread than anybody else :P
anyway, since this video card didn't work i'm just sending it back, getting a new motherboard and a new vid card
the video card i'm getting is:
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...Tab=9&NoMapp=0
eVGA GeForce 6800 GS CO SE
and the motherboard:
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...?Sku=A455-2116
Asus A8N-SLI NVIDIA Socket 939 ATX Motherboard
so maybe that will work out nice with my athlon 64 3500+ venice..lol.. we'll find out sometime next week..
(why do i always seem to buy stuff on the weekends?)
