Most probably, I'll wait a while after release though, until staying with XP is too much of a pain. I didn't get onto XP until a couple of years ago, had been using 2K since it's release before that.

Not overly impressed yet, I'll wait at least a year for the majority of the major bugs to be ironed out.

good advice, I normally do the same with a new MS OS. keep the older OS on a work rig and build a cheap ass little thing to play around with the new OS.

Will jump on the bloat after 6 months or so. Waiting to see how the gaming part of it pans out.

Same here. Actually, I'm using Linux mostly, and XP is just fine for gaming.

Cons
I'm playing games and using programs. The OS is supposed to be something transparent.
Right now, XP is just fine and I'm not keen about purchasing a new OS especially when I would probably need to upgrade the hardware as well.
Pro
On the other hand, I know that sooner or later I won't have a choice cos I won't be able to find a proper driver for the new thing I just purchased. This is the usual trap with new OS.
Eventually, for professionnal purposes, it is always good to be up to date.

I read earlier that vista is going to us 800 mb of memory so that's a minus even before we get going !

I'll wait. I'm pretty slow when it comes to changing my primary OS (still using Win2k). I'll probably make a dual boot configuration if the OS is available through MSDNAA, but I'm not expecting much from it.

XP may be my last MS-OS. I'm keeping an eye on Apple since the switch to the intel platform. I may indeed switch sometime this year.

One will probably feel dragged over to Vista after a year or two one way or another. For instance new development in DirectX might well get half cooked support on WinXP, and similar. It will help if projects like nLite lets you cut away a lot of fluff from Vista, but right now I'm guessing not to be fully migrating sooner than during 2008. Initially there seems to be no real reason to do it, but several factors like overall system performance advicing against.

Prolly the same as I did when XP came out, I'll stick with what I've got until the games etc that I want to play start requiring Vista (and lol no Halo 2 doesn't count!!)

Hopefully that'll give someone time to do a workaround for the DRM crap thats being foisted on us...

I am sure I will upgrade, but I do need more info. Right now I want to upgrade, but feel maybe I should hold off and wait to hear more about vista.

I need more info.

Typically, I'll wait a year or more before upgrading to the next OS. Let them patch up bugs and vulnerabilities while I gather the pieces for a PC to run it on.

Let people with a lot more money than me be the guinea pigs.

It helps making the switch a lot less painful when I know what I'll be getting into.

i voted "no way!" But this isn't really a viable option with a windows MS, it's just mostly how I feel. From what I've heard about it I'm not interested, however it will be forced upon us all sooner or later. I just pray Linux gaming support improves before then.

Again, can't vote: No, but eventually I will have to (support and other crap).

@temeteus82: Why?

Oh, and the front page doesn't know I'm actually logged in... Weird.

I voted no. I got XP pretty soon after it came out, a few months or so, when I bought a new PC, and there were some nice features it had that made upgrading a thing to look forward too, but things like the user interface of XP never rocked my boat, I still use the classic Windows style.

I started using Linux after I got XP and I'm pretty much converted to Linux now, and I can't see me upgrading to Vista when it comes out. I still keep an XP disk kicking around for special circumstances and when I have to deliver work in a format such as Visio which doesn't have any support under Linux.

I guess when XP goes out of support I will have to upgrade, but at the current time I can't see anything I've read in the press which will make me want to upgrade.
