Snowed In All Week
Well we've had an unusual bout of terrible weather and have been stuck in the house all week
took the car to the shops monday, and on the way down the hill to the main road i tentatively touched the brake, only for the car to, oh so slowly, pirouette sideways across the main road and end up in the wrong lane facing the wrong way
anyways, it's gotten worse since then, and now we can't even think about driving.
I would have taken a pic of my car which is completely burried under snow, but it hasn't stopped all day, so I snapped this out of the bedroom window:
that car hadn't been there very long btw
it better stop soon, I'm down to my last few drops of bourbon

We call that winter here.
Usual winters we get that snow every few days. That stuff looks wet though, and that's no fun. Hopefully you can get yourself some bourbon soon.

it's unusual where I am to get this bad in march, or any other time really
we're quite unprepared for it in terms of sorting out the roads etc, so it's a bit hairy

I bet, we are getting unseasonable weather here as well (it has been the weakest winter I can remember, but now we are getting lake effect snow, ice, etc.). I just hope this isn't a sign of a drawn out winter. I need teh heat and sun before I kill someone... oh, forget I said that.

forgotten
all that really bothers me about it is that the roads are pretty much impassable
I like a drive with lots of sing-a-long music every day or 2 to clear my head

Looks like good boarding weather.
I'm skipping school tomorrow along with about 25 other people to go snowboarding, going on Saturday and Sunday as well, and probably Monday after that.

we don't usually get snow like this full stop, which is why I felt the need to post
wish I could take a piccy of our cars, one of them is completely burried, the other has only a wing mirror showing.
normally I like it, but I've run out of bourbon, and my new mobo is finally supposed to be delivered tomorrow, so I'm a bit at a loss.
4AM here, and it's coming down heavier than ever, so don't think I'll be getting my mobo

We've been similar...haven't had snow like that sine november. It's been a real mild winter this year for us. My golf game should get tested at least a month early this year

Sounds like somebody forgot to change to winter tyres this year
(Here it became a legal requirement to use Winter tyres when it snows, if you have an accident in the snow without winter tyres the insurance won't pay up for your damage, and it is your fault regardless - most people change to winter tyres around October-November and switch back to summer tyres at Easter; I have 17" Alloys with winter tyres and 18" alloys with low profile summer tyres.)
We had around 20cm of snow yesterday and another 25-30cm so far today and it is still nearly a white-out out of the window - we've had snow here since the middle of November on and off - every time we get down to a few shabby piles of snow knocking around we get another big snowfall.
It took me about an hour to dig the car out yesterday, but once I made it from the drive onto the road, it was fine, probably 40-50mph instead of 60mph on the backroads and keeping the speed to around 90mph on the autobahn where it had been cleared, obviously it was down to under 45mph where it was still snow covered.
We had a few accidents on the motorway because people didn't moderate their speed until after snow ploughs had been through, so they were skidding on the fresh stuff. The winter tyres are good, but not that good
Talking of winter tyres, anybody see the specials on "Die another day"? They put the winter tyres that Yokohama gave them on the Aston and Jag for the ice duel scenes, but when racing across the ice, the cars just wouldn't slid, so they abandoned the winter tyres and went back to summer tyres so they could get some spectacular slides

thing is, it's not supposed to snow like this here
when I lived on the west coast I'd use winter tires, but here this kind of weather tooks us so completely by suprise they didn't even manage to get a plough on the road until 2 days after it started snowing
worst of all, my new mobo was finally supposed to be here yesterday , but cos of the crappy weather I won't get it til monday
my new plan is to stay in the house and drink my way through the booze cupboard
I've got all kinds of green and blue coloured stuff in there that I've always wanted to know what it tastes like

Ouch... Yep, here the snow plough had been through before 8 A.M. - and this is a "childrens play street", so cars can do a max of 5mph here, but they still cleared it first thing. I cleared the drive as I said, but just looked out the window, there's another 5cm or so of snow there since I cleared it about 5-6 hours ago! The snow seems to be getting heavier.

Ouch, that sucks, Deutsche Post have their vans equipped with snow chains and they have made at least 2 passes through our street with special deliveries today. I guess you didn't get it through the regular post, aren't they supposed to deliver come hell, high water or excessive snow?

Sounds like a plan! Don't have any alcohol in the house here though, just tea and bottled water...
My back aches after having shovelled an area of around 75m² with ~20cm of snow over it, so I'm going to make a nice hot cup of tea and take a long soak in the bath! The snow on either side of the drive is between waist and shoulder heigh! :o
