Crossfire X1600Pro Issue... Please Help
hi i just recently purchased two X1600Pro Sapphire Crossfire ready cards
When i run GuildWars the game freezes sound loops computer must be rebooted
When i Run Day of Defeat: Source the game freezes and my screen goes black monitor looses connection like i turned my pc off...
when i run Half-Life 2 game freezes during the menu. monitor some times goes black but hasnt last 3 times i tried something. just in day of defeat the monitor goes black. I have the latest cataylist drivers and microsoft framework 1.1 installed. i also tried Omega Drivers but no success or change.
on my DFI motherboard i configured the Genie Bios to enable both PCI-E slots and change the rates both to 8x as i asume i was supposed to acording to techinical support on DFI's webpage.
im not sure what else i can do. i have not upgraded my bios on the motherboard duno if that would even be a factor. the computer does not lock up while its in windows or anything of that sort just when i activate both video cards and crossfire is enabled on CCC though this happened even before i had crossfire or the 2nd x1600 enabled. any help advice or support would be most appreciated. thanks.

Do you get that kind of issues with Crossfire disabled?

Thanks,
yeah i did some things i read browsing around the forum here i wiped my entire computer free and reinstalled drivers heres a rough time line of what i did... i got the computer now running awsome in crossfire but i still have issues while playing guildwars, i also have had no artifacts or serious glitches while i play or in windows. though when i boot up the screen after logging in my desktop with a few lines acrost the screen a few times like its loading something but other than that no other issues.
1. fresh windows install. 32bit.
2. ati drivers from cd (with crossfire disabled on my motherboard) with framework 1.1
3. installed omega drivers after reboot.
4. Enabled Crossfire on motherboard during reboot set bandwith to 8x as instructed by tutorial on DFI website
5. installed guildwars and half-life2 + source games games ( still failed to work at this point i didnt know how to activate crossfire on the CCC thought motherboard activated. )
6. opened up CCC and was unable to activate crossfire.
7. reinstalled brand new 6.2 Cataylist from ATI website
8. Enabled Crossfire after reboot.
9. game crashes goes to black screen when i run guildwars. after 15-30 seconds.
- half-life2 crashed during menu selecting level to play
- day of defeat : source crashed 20 seconds after play when i reloaded my thompson.
10. deleted both my cards and unistalled everything that was ATI or Omega
11. Reinstalled Catalist 6.2 drivers
12. ran Day of Defeat : source game ran perfect 50-60 frames with some minor glitches but not enough to affect game play (blur affect after server shock from a gernade glitches) played for about an hour to see if anything else happened nothing did!
13. Guildwars still has issues running but it ran nice once and crashes the next so its a 50/50 on this game.

Edit: 3Dmark05 still crashes 15-40 seconds while running demo one while testing everything

Started to lock up while playing Day of Defeat after a while thinking that its being caused by one of my cards overheating... does anyone know a program to check temp of my video cards?

ATI Tool should do it, I don't know if it will "see" both of them though.
I don't know though....it might be power related but that's just because I'm always suspicious of PSU's.
Out of curiosity, you have the latest chipset drivers right?

ok i updated bios and drivers but i still get the same results... though my games just freeze now and sound loops screen doesnt but sound loops every 3 seconds to next part of the sound so as if i was to fire my gun the beging sound would loop and continue to slowly loop to the end of the shot. i also installed someting called smart garduian they had on the website under my motherboard drivers. this is what my heat stats are...
Cpu - 031*C
PWMIC - 038*C
Chipset - 048*C (fan speed 7031)

So now im starting to think its my chipset that is causing the problem not my video cards... so now im not sure what to do... im thinking about taking the fan off and adding some artic silver stuff i used on my amd chip hoping that will fix the problem and lower the temp... im assuming since its got fan speed thats the only chip thats over heating my case temp is 34*C and 31*C in another spot around my hard drives. i will let you guys know the outcome in a few hours when figure out how to remove the fan...

Wow great temps for the CPU, almost 50* for the chipset isnt really that bad, but i have never seen mine ever that high. try it and get back to us.

Hi,
Im new but im running two x1600xts in crossfire on an abit at8 mb. No issues so far. Its been running for a week and has only had one issue with HL2 in crossfire mode i get a memory access error. Turn off crossfire and it runs strong at 70fps with the settings amost all the way up and in 1280x1024. I do occasionally get a skip here and there. I am running the ati 6.2 drivers. I noticed that in your steps of things you did, you installed the ati drivers from the cd and after the reboot installed the Omega drivers. Couldnt this cause a conflict between drivers. Wouldnt it be best to choose one set of drivers and only install them? Maybe thats something you want to try. Clean out the drivers using driver cleaner and choose the ati or omega and see what happens. I chose teh ati because it has the ccc, i wasnt sure if the omega drivers did and ive heard of great increases in performance due to the ati 6.2 drivers. Just my .02. Hope it leads you down the path to a solution.
X
