dvd shrink is becoming obsolete. while i still use it along with nero for shrinking & burning i am finding more & more often that it is unable to rip dvds with newer prot schemes.

any dvd is nice, but i think 'free' is the operative word here

i encountered a problem decrypting Brothers Grimm with DVDshrink, tryed with DVD decrypter and all went well, only i had to decrypt the whole thing to an 8 gig file then use Nero to trim the audio and compress more. Rather than picking first your compression settings and what not then decrypting with DVD shrink.

I had the same problem /w Brothers Grim. However, I had to use a VOB fixer to correct the issue.

You could always use DVD43 (freeware - just google it) which means that you can work with the original disc rather than ripping it to your hard drive (handy if you're running out of space!)

If you're compression is going to below about 80% I would consider an alternative to DVD Shrink. Check out DVD Rebuilder (www.jdobbs.net) there is a freeware version that comes with a freeware encoder that will give you much better results than DVD Shrink. It takes much longer but on longer titles that require more compression it makes a huge difference in the final result.

I liked it so much I bought the pro version!!

I downloaded dvd rebuilder and went to install, but it wants to insall another program first. I cancelled... but what is the other program and why does it need to be installed? it's not spyware or anything like that is it?

I have a weird way of knowing if it's worth while copying a movie or not. Pretty much if it's under 2 hours then you're good. However, any thing over two hours you start to have compression issues. Of course for me anything over 2:15:00 is going straight to DL. A little off topic but have you guys ever noticed some of the old movies have huge files? The ones that were releaased prior to DVDs being on the market.

Try DVD-Guides.com, they have tools (DVD Decryptor, DVD Shrink) and many different guides on how to copy DVDs.
