starmicro is a bad company.

I ordered a new 3.2c proc to upgrade my 2.4c on friday and there site says if you order it before noon pst itll be shipped that day. Monday rolls around and i have no tracking number so i call them and they tell me its not gaurenteed so instead of arguing i ask when it will be shipped and the guy on the phone says call back in an hour due to computer down time. I tell him I'm on the site right now and its working fine. Now i figure he will say well our website and in house comp are not related but he says, "look I'm going to lunch and your order of one proc is petty to us." Now if I lived there in CA i would hunt him down and punish him. Instead I'm in CO so after some harsh language about his attitude and mother who I dont know I tell him to cancel my order. After he agrees to cancel and we hang up I lokk at my bank account online and see I've been charged twice. I then call starmicro again to see if they are aware of there mistake and the same guy answers and hangs up after 3 calls and being hung up on 3 times I finally decide to email the company, I am still waiting on a reply. I have called my bank and told them the situation and they are trying to contact them for me to let them know they are using my card fraudulently (charging items to my card without approval). Now I hope its just a disgruntled employee and they dont do business like that normally but I would deffinitly reccommend another e-tailer to buy your geek supplies from. I have reodered through ewiz because they have never done me wrong. I will update this a soon as I get a responce from the bank or starmicro.

holy crap. that is incredible. if you dont get any luck let me know - I understand why you did it, but you really do need to remain quiet yet firm when dealing with companies on the phone, if you lose your cool then you really are only damaging your own chances to sort things out......

EDIT: after looking at their website, its hard to believe this company is professional on any level, ive never seen a worse website for a tech site..... would hardly instill confidence !

Well I just recieved a call from my bank and the money is back in my account and starmicro had to pay for overdraw fees also. Thanks for your reply zardon but the situation is resolved and I will stick with newegg, and ewiz for my comp needs. I put my order in at ewiz at about 1:45pm and paid for rush processing and i have my tracking number already with an arrival date of tomorrow. Thanks again Zardon for your willingness to help.

Darn it! They just happen to be the only company I can find that carries the processsor I want to upgrade to. First time I've seen a P4 3.4 Northwood/478pin for a 875P in over a year! They are only a few miles from my home though so I might give them a try. oh yes they have a 25% restocking fee. gulp Anyone know where I can get a P4 3.4 Northwood cpu anywhere else?

FYI .. I used to work a two different credit card companies and that is normal. The second charge is actually a refund and it will show up as one within 24 hours. Give it time.

Well Zardon that email would be appreciated now and let me tell you why. Let me say first, this time I never raised my voice and kept it at a proffessional level on my end the whole time. I come home today from the doctor (I have the flu) and checked my account and I was shocked to find I was in the negative. So I check to see the reason and Starmicro withdrew $218.11 which put me under quick. 2-10-06 a friday I ordered a p4 3.2c from starmicro at 10:45am pst and there website states any order tuesday through friday made before 12:00pst will be processed that day. Monday 2-13-06 no shipment so I call and cancell my order. Now after I get my bank involved and they call the starmicro everything gets put back and I believe I am done with Starmicro. 2-15-06 my account is sevearly overdrawn so I check the problem and guess who it is. Yup, starmicro on this date they charged me for the proc I cancelled on 2-13-06 so I call. The first guy I talk to is nice but tells me he is not qualified to help me so I will need to talk to a manager. After maybe 5 seconds the manager is on the phone with me and I explain the situation. He asks for my info and I give it and he says yes your order is cancelled. I say great so we both agree it was cancelled on monday 2-13-06 he agrees so were still being proffessional to eachother. I then ask him why on wensday 2-15-06 I have a charge for $218.11 from starmicro making every check i wrote bounce. He then tells me it'll take about 3 days to be back in my account. I reply why so long? He then tells me how the banking process works. After his 3 minute speech I say, but wasnt my order cancelled on monday 2-13-06? he says well yes. So I say well then why was it even charged, and he replies, We have no involvment in his part of the store so I ask for someone higher up. I guess those words make retailers angry because he started yelling after that. He screams in the phone give me your phone number so I do. I ask him can I have the time when someone higher up will be in so we can resolve the issue and he replies by slamming the phone. Well I called my bank again and I have to go down to fill out more paperwork. If you can send an email it would be appreciated. Someone with power might stop there business tactics or lack of. Please anyone who reads this dont order from them I know there prices are low but pay the extra $50-$60 and order from a respected site.

ok what I need you to do, is email me clearly the whole thing as it happened (I dont need specifics of phone conversations and the guy being rude to you or vice versa), meaning basically I need this, the date you ordered it - the transactions to your bank. the delays, the emails they sent you and the current situation.

ill contact them and see what I can do.

I just checked this companies record over the past 36 months at the BBB online service. (a free service by the way) The company in question has had 22 complaints in the last 36 months in the following categories: Selling Practices/Delivery/Warranty/Guarantee/Product Quality/Refund Promised/Customer Service/Credit or Billing Issues. The BBB report states that all but one "issue" have been resolved and one was a "non response" by the company.
The company has been in business since 2000.
I will definetly NOT be making any online purchases from this company and thanks BurL for the heads up...

Edit: See my post below.

sounds like a good place to avoid, I hope that some added pressure from well know sources help to resolve the issue in question.

Suprisingly, my last experience with starmicro went quite well. I only bought two case fans so the error factor and the money factor is negligible.

But good call, I dont think i'll buy from them again, I guess I got lucky.

Startmicro is the best source for computer parts

I have bought many items from Starmicro and they have been very good with pricing, service and know-how. They are very friendly on the phone. I have spent over 7 thousand dollars in orders with them over the last few months. I am very happy with all the computer parts I have received. I highly recommend Starmicro for they have helped me with everything I have needed, ram or cpu’s. I own one of the largest service centers in the Midwest. I give them 5 stars.

Thank you Starmicro and keep up the good service.

Looks like we got a spammer's attention.

Doesn't even know how to spell the company's name correctly.

LOL i hardly noticed this whole thing..... "I own one of the largest service centers in the Midwest."

i seriously wonder how large he can be buying those overpriced, third-rate, generic scrap heaps of memory and CPUs

i bet nearly all of those parts are pulls advertised as new or OEM lol

not to mention the tread is nearly two years old, still, makes ya wander if they have changed their business practices, the website is still subpar looking. I'd still advise a DOSE of salt if even considering ordering from there.

Anyone still using AOL here on DH? Man, I left that behind a LONG time ago. It does make me wonder how 'professional' this poster is if they're still using AOL.

i used my AIM account to get in as my yahoo account was blocked lol

but yea.... even though the site is subpar, if their inventory was at least half decent with at least a couple modern and high performing parts they may get more purchases, but looking at their prices id rather shop at ClubIT or something, they're cheaper.
