Programmed Drums in Cubase
Hi Everybody,
..at first..sorry if already asked...
I`m looking for some Help.... I`ve an Audigy 2 Blaster, the latest KX Driver and Cubase installed. My Problem ist that the KX Synthesizer doesn`t come up with any MIDI Sound (I don`t hear anything). I don`t have a Keyboard or Something, I just want the Midi Sound from the Cubase Drum Maps (for a programmed Drum Track). When I use the Microsoft Wavetable Synthesizer I hear the Drums, with the KX Synthi....Silence O.K. I´ve read a lot about Soundfonts here, and I´ve downloaded a few an have Installed them...but Never have heard anything ..What did I wrong?? Any Help? Please!
Thanx a lot!

I only have Cubase SX3 - so the following my be different for different versions of Cubase.
So - you installed Soundfonts - and selected them properly in a midi track?
And you can see the patches listed when you open 'Devices/KX Synth XXXX' (the same screen you can load banks within cubase)
Then in KX mixer - 'Master Page' you made sure the KX SYNTH level was high enough.
The MASTER VOLUME level is also up too.
And your desired output is enabled and level is high enough.
If so - do you see any activity in the KX MIXER - ANAYLSER PAGE While midi is playing back?

Hey,
no I`m usin KX3537. O.k. let`s go over your Questions. I`m using Cubase SX3.1.1.
The Volume Levels are o.k. (when I switch to the Microsoft Synthi it works instantly. Guitar Tracks are also there and loud enough)
In "Devices/kx Synth" I`ve Loaded the Bank (*.sf2) (both Synths) --> That was one Thing I din`t before you replied my Posting!
When i put a few Drums in the Track I Can see It works in the "MIDI output Level" Indicator (left Side of the Cubase "Toolbar") The Audio Level Indicators are silent.
The MIDI Devices I use are
input --> KX Uart
output --> KX Synth
Default for the Drummap --> KX Synth
I`m not sure what u mean with "So - you installed Soundfonts - and selected them properly in a midi track?" I just open a empty Midi Track, select MIDI/Drumeditor --> then load the GM MAP (Cubase default Drum Map) an put some Drum Beats in the Track.
In the Cubase Main Window I set the Volume Levels. Per Default the MIDI output Device is the KX Synth. But I don`t have any Sound. When I open the "out:" Pull Down Menu on the "Track Inspector" and Change the MIDI output Device to Windows Wavetable Synth. I have MIDI Sound (I can her the Drums)
what the heck is going on.. any more Ideas...huge Thanks!

What .SF2 files did you load? Are you sure these soundfonts have drums in them, and that they are mapped to percussion? For testing, try starting with a soundfont that is a complete GM bank (i.e. the soundfonts from the Creative CD (CT2MGM.SF2 or CT4MGM.SF2 or CT8MGM.SF2)).

Try changing the patch for the drum channel - I noticed different behaviour with KX.
With CL drivers (maybe MS soft synth too..??) - If I ONLY have a drum patch set to patch 1 - if I select patch 2 for that track - I will still hear the drums - with KX, this is not so for me (I never used 3537 tho either)
In otherwords - KX wont 'roll back' to last defined patch if no patch is present when selected.
I also can't say I use cubase a whole lot - I just set to chanel 10 - set the output and input ports (with that little 'e' button on the track properties) and record - I hear it while recording and while it plays back.
I just looked at the drum map editor - make sure the output ports are correct
For me - Im seeing only the GM Drum map - and ALL notes are set to default - the default being set by the little drop down i at the bottom left of the drum map editor screen.
Im not sure if cubase will take the trak inspectors precedence over the settings for the drum map. But to be safe - make sure they are both set to KX Synth.
edit:
It seems cubase track settings over ride rum map port settings.
I set the channel and port in the 'CHANNEL SETTINGS' by clicking on the 'e'

Hi,
I'm experiencing the same problem, but can't get it solved just by using another soundfont.
I'm using Cubase SE3, SBLive Player 5.1 (SB0060 5.1 [a800]) and the latest kX-Version: 5, 10, 00, 3538 - debug.
I think everything is setup right, I can hear all midi-sounds, only if I switch to channel 10, I only get silence. Same thing with the Microsoft Wavetable as above.
I looked at the analyser, but this thing doesn't make any sense to me.
I#m attaching a screenshot while playing Midi within Cubase with 2 tracks, one normal piano track which I can hear clearly and one drum track on channel 10 which I can't hear.
I hope, someone can help me in some way.

well I have same problem, even when I load soundfont correctly within Cubase SX, I can't hear drums at all
For test, I've loaded that 8MB soundfont from creative CD into kx synth (Under Devices menu). When I use kx synth as output for some MIDI track it works, i can hear piano etc. But once I set channel 10, which i believe should be drums, all I get is complete silence. But if I change output to MS Synthetizer, the same track now works and I hear drums perfectly. I'm using regular 3537 drivers, do you think that can be the cause? Or any other ideas?
Edit:
Ok, it really drives me mad, I've tryied following: Upgrade the kx drivers (3538k now), upgraded my Cubase SX to SX2. The problem's still there
Where I try to play regular midi file (say in winamp) using kx synth I can hear the drums, no problem there. But this is what I do:
1. startup Cubase SX, new project, add one midi track, open it in drum roll and I put some drums there
2. Devices->kx synth, load bank (8MB soundfont from Creative CD for the test)
3. Set output of my drum midi track to kx synth
4. Play the track, I can see the fader moving, but don't hear no sound at all...arrr!
If I change output to Microsoft synth, I hear can my drum track.
I'd really welcome any ideas.
