ZipZoomfly.. What the F***? A new X1900XT looks "used" / refurbished / damaged etc...
What the F***? A new X1900XT looks "used" / refurbished / damaged
Just got my X1900XT from ZipZoomFly
*The card had been re shrink wrapped (poorly) and had a center bulge that
you get after the card has been removed and you try to repack it . But doesn’t
come that way from MFG. First though oh god no… But hoped well maybe
just maybe it came that way from the MFG.
*The card has been installed before I can tell by the markings on the connector.
* The card looks to have had DVI adaptor monitor attachment attached and
removed many times
*I can clearly see what appears to be flux on spots on the board.
Maybe from mfg you “could think” but considering the other conditions
Who knows..
*Received it in a FedEx box skin tight to the card, NOT properly packed
*The box and materials inside a pristine condition, yet cards back plate
has been severally bent even ever so slight damage to the board it self.
I was able to bend it back into shape…
(Why did I buy from them, Instead of say new egg? I’ve bought from
them before. Also at new egg it was the same price but $5 more for
3 day shipping where as at zipzoomfly it was free 2 day.)
What the bloody hell?
Especially considering the card only been available for about a week.
Considering it takes days to get, and 2 days to get a rma number plus their
slow in that dept . It seems impossible it a return. As they don’t do return
on this item. Only exchanges for defective units.
But I’m sure they had that cards “in shop” before then. Which could leave you to conclude maybe somebody took one home or in shop used it and packed up nice and
Neat in shop… Or I don’t see how they could of received the card that way…Especially since the were just released…
I haven’t even bothered trying to install it some serious s***t come home
to dead tried from a long s***y day. Hopeing to enjoy at lest go home relax
andget in some drool time with my new hardware.
This totally sucks arse

I'd be close to 'going postal' if I got one in that condition.

If i'd spent as much as those cards do i'd kick some butt. Im sure your consumer rights have been infringed here m8, you must demand a replacement, no way can you accept goods that so obviously have been used. Bent parts=return.

One of 2 things could have happened: 1) they decided to test one out then reshrink wrap it for selling, or 2) it was a return by someone that said it didn't work or what not, and they decided to reshrink wrap it, and sell it rather then send it for replacment thinking that they could get away with it.
I'm leaning towards the latter excuse though as this tends to be a huge practice these days. And since it's such a hot product they probably didn't want to lose out on the immediate $$ they would lose by sending it back for replacement.

Oh now that I'm awake I will but since they don't cross ship it means
I have to wait 2 days for an RMA number and god knows how long after
I ship it in....

that what I'm thinking but the acessories are unopened. That and the look
of that scraches onthe DVI look like someone connected and unconnected
DVI connctors many times. Like it was used to test moniors on some line of something quite a rut there...
I'll keep you posted on what happens but I'm looking at 2 days just to get
my RMA number
EDIT:
2/1/06 7:45 AM
RMA dept and customer service submissions away

i've had bad experiences with zipzoomfly in the past. they'll send you used or defective units and claim they came new from the manufacturer. when i try to contact customer service, they dont have enough of a workforce, so the automated machine hangs up your call after 15 minutes of waiting.

either they used it to test monjitor or the monitor it was hooked it to surely
as a bit tight on the DVI connections...
I had another thought:
I wonder if thier opening an over clocking the XT if they will do XTX? If they
did they could easlily change the device ID , udates the speeds in the bios,
print a new green sticker and relable .. the XT and XTX look exactly the same
this time around... so does the X1800XT for that matter so god who knows!!!
But that is a scary thought... thats why I pay extra for a sealed retail box
along with the better protection, warrenty, and acessories

Sorry, I skipped most of the thread, but here's some pics of my first X1900XT...
I've since returned it and bought another one. This new card's bracket looks beautifully perfect. It actually FITS in my case. The pcb on the new one's not chipped and the display doesn't freak out, lol!
Return that shit!
EDIT: I know you're in a mad rush to get these cards out to us ATI, but seriously...on a $550 video card? I would think we'd get a bit more QA than the average xSeries...

Unbelievable! When I read Neon's posts, I thought that some arsehole dropped the card and then rewrapped it in what he had, but it looks like there is more! Still I don't think they make them that way (no need to make such mistakes on this cards if they make the others right), they've probably both been damaged in transport.
Hmm, maybe Neon got Jodiuh's card?!

Wow im almost tempted to re check my vid card for any of these minor damages n stuff heh. It looked fine and works well so Im guessing its okay. But yeah these are probabl isolated incidents that prob could have been caused by bad shipping/handling and/or acts of GoD(isnt everything technically an act of god to those who believe in it). LOL and looking at the pics, before I read the post I thought...that is one SH!@#Y freakin MONITOR on the left.
