Benchmark way lower than should be, cpu problem?
Well I just did a fresh install of XP SP2, used the latest NVidia drivers and other system drivers.
My system is a 915p chipset, 3.4ghz p4 w/ HT, NVidia 6800GT OC, and 1 gb of pc400 memory.
My 3dMark score is 2355 and my cpu score is 804. On the cpu test its at a constant 0 fps and the game test scene "return to proxicon" my fps is around 12 or so.
Does anyone have any suggestions? These scores are crazy low! This is a fresh system, I shouldn't be seeing these numbers.
Thanks in advance for your input.

After doing the fresh install, have you installed the latest chipset drivers for your system? You should check at www.intel.com for the latest.
OR, check at your motherboard's WEB site for latest drivers for that specific mobo.

Time to get a little more specific:
What motherboard, PSU, brand of RAM, type of Hardware, mother's maiden name, the whole gamut.

Set to performance mode. got maybe 2-300 points.
As for my setup.
MotherBoard = GigaByte GA-8I915P pro-a
Ram = 1 stick of 512mb pc400 Kingston HyperX and 1 stick of 512mb Corsaid pc400 (not sure which type)
Video card = BFG Tech Nvidia 6800 GT OC (clocked to 400/1000)
And the PSU is a "ENERMAX Noisetaker EG375P-VE-SFMA 370W"

3dMark05 or 03? Did you have the setting set to default, or higher? Was v-sinc on?

the only things i can think of are v-sync, and the performance options like we have said earlier. also, like nuke there said, turn off any unnecessary background applications that you have running.

I have yet to install anything other than norton 2005 and firefox, task manager shows i hav 800 megs of ram available. I am running no other basic processes. Every driver setting has been placed to performance, vysnc off, 3dmark05 at default.
I'm going to try turning HT off and see what that does, but I'de be surprised if that fixed it.
Is it just me...or with my specs should I be seeing a higher score for a box with a fresh install and latest drivers?

i read this post on this website and the guy states
"I got 5405 3dmarks with a 6800GT @ 420/1200 using 66.51 drivers...
The Cpu @ default 3.2ghz.."
and on another post
"
I got 5911 with the rig in my sig, all is stock with no overclocking, 3dmark05 on default settings...(edited out some unneeded info)
These are with cat 5.6
Any feedback appreciated, thx

"
I'de imagine that being modest i should easily be obtaining over 3k.
I wonder if some part of my computer is bad, I should start by returning the vid card for a replacement eh?
Anyone have anymore suggestions?

your rig is plenty powerful to easily be scoring in the 5k range for the '05 benchmark. check all your video settings and set everything to performance, disable any background programs that don't need to be running (like norton.....ESPECIALLY norton ), and turn off v-sync.
these are all suggestions we have already given you.

No, it's not just you. You should be seeing scores at least in the upper 5000s....and maybe into the 6000s. I just did a little check on Futuremark's ORB site and there are scores in the 7000s....with higher speed CPUs and likely some overclocking all around.
What I would do is reinstall your updated motherboard drivers....making absolutely sure you install everything.
Make sure your RAM timings are as tight as the RAM specifies.
If there's anything sharing an IRQ with your Video Card, try to make sure it's disabled for the mean time while you do the testing.
You might even boost the voltage to your video card an increment at a time. I find my own X800 runs really good with 1.55 instead of 1.5.
If you have any DVD/CDs in the drive, remove it/those in order to avoid having the benchmark program make an attempt to access it/them.
If I were in your shoes, I'd be greatly concerned, too. You should be seeing some much higher scores than you're getting.

Oh trust me, I am concerned.
I'm not a newbie and I am very familiar with my system, and this just baffles me. I'm going to try reinstalling system drivers and checking for IRQ conflicts. If that doesn't work I'm exchanging the card tomorrow =/

When you start up the 3DMark program, have you done a System check? You can see all the RAM timings, settings, etc, by doing that. It might help get to the bottom of the problem if you can see what's really 'under the hood'.

take a screenie of your task manager in desending order of programs by amount of memory being used up. then between myself and others here, we can help you out as to which background programs can be turned off to help improve your scores. the other thing i want you to take a screenshot of is your nVidia control panel where it shows what settings you have your card at.

here is an old screenie of one of my scores back when i had a 6800GT. the circled area is the places i want you to take screen shots of. I want to see what settings you have your gfx card running at. I still believe you are doing something wrong.
and like i said, also take a screen shot of your task manager. You said you have about 800Mb of memory available when you go benchmark. 800Mb available would mean that 200Mb of memory is being used up. Clearing up some of the programs running will also help out some.

Ignore the azureus and javaw process, i have those off when i bench. As for disabling norton completly, i dont think 100megs of mem or whatever it's using will make the differance in my score I am looking for.
Here are some screen shots of what you requested

Do you have rivatuner installed? you shoud check if all 16 pixelpiplines are open, and 6 vertex shaders as well.. if so. then it could only be drivers. Only those could give the performance hits your getting.
