Ubuntu, Firefox, and Flashplayer

Last night I took a major step out of my comfort zone and installed linux. First I went with Xandros (hated it) then Suse 10.0 (network server failed) and then Ubuntu 5.10RC.

I got it up and running, but didn't like that it lacked Flashplayer, so I downloaded and attempted to install it. I got an error saying it wasn't compatable with my version (the 64 bit platform)

On the net I found a nice little guide to tweaking it to work, so I did, and it installed. Now here's where the problem comes in. Firefox no longer loads. Help no longer loads, and update manager no longer loads.

Firefox just says "starting firefox" on the taskbar, then closes. Update manager prompts for a password, then crashes after I input it, and help says something like "Program 'Yelp' Failed unexpectedly" and gives me the option to report, restart, or abort.

I deleted the plugin files for FF thinking that would help, but it's still not working.

Help?

This is rather strange... what exactly did you do when trying to make it work?

<rant>
Blame Macromedia for their ignorance; Linux has existed for over 2 years ond amd64 platform, and they still haven't got around to port their flashplayer to that?
Let's not mention that they still don't support BSD or Solaris...

It's resolved now. Which means I gave up and installed Suse 9.3

Thanks anyways.
