How much better is it? is it the same steam we all love to hate and want to be destroyed or a completely revamped system.
It probably just looks prettier, I'll go see for myself.
Edit: nice find but where did you find it?

Too bad I'm not on my new comp or I would be downloading all the mods for HL2.
Edit: I like this version better for the mod support because it gives you a simple list and seperates the mods for either HL1 or 2, I also heard that they will put the most popular mods in like a top 10 type deal for HL2.

Either edit your registry entry for steam to start automatically
and add the needed string . Or simply uncheck start steam with
windows in the steam settings

I suggest you get the sliver package quickly before the release of the new steam since they're changing the prices. In the new steam beta they are selling half life 2 for $39.95 without CS:S and the source permier pack for $59.95 which includes all currently released source games but NO valve back catalouge. This means that you'll be getting less for the same amount of money.
As for the free games, on steam alone there's codename gorden which is a fun 2d sidescroller but that doesn't last long. For the mods you'll simply have to try them out and see what you like and dislike.

I think my modification of the HL2.exe has gotten me permanently banned from all VAC server. It says some type of Steam ticket error or something.
I dunno what to do I reverted back still nothing.

Just modified the .exe at the end to get steam 3.0 to update as listed. Since then I can't seem to join vac severs. I changed it bakc and did quiet a few different registry cleaners because VAC looks for that footprint of there ever being ahack of modification to .exe on your computer. I found something similiar happen to someone else on the steam forums.

Dunno if it is the same deal.

Unless you had cheats loaded, I say no it's not the same deal,
"Now, I do have cheats on my computer, for watching demos and looking for wallspam spots on maps (on non-secure servers or HLTV demos) So I do admit to having a cheat and x-spec on my HD."
http://forums.steampowered.com/forum...hreadid=352428
You don't modify the actual EXE just the command line used to launch
steam.exe right?. Your not banned for useing the beta client, just for eather
cheating, useing tools that could be used to cheat, VAC scans your game
files and system memory, if it sees a cheat you get banned.
