I just listened to bliss. I think it is good. It is a little short, but you did say it is the start of a song, so... The drum beat sounds a bit like it is skipping at times, but I have not decided if that is a good thing or a bad thing as of yet I could picture it being used as a background track in a movie as it is now, but as a song for general listening I think it would need to be developed/extended a bit more.

thnx russ---you get everywhere dont you!! youre doing a great job in this forum with all your knowledge and expertise! good to have you here.
yep song is in its VERY early stages at the mo, so needs big time developing. im going to try and write a melody and lyrics to this one too (argh- god help me). i will keep going on it and let you know when it gets further.
yes the drums do skip.... its done on purpose to give it a stilted/ strange kind of feel if you know what i mean. i did it by playing around with the played in drums in quantise 64. good fun and i like the skipping (almost out of time) effect it creates.

Trev, Man - This is ace!
A fantastic composition, production and Vocal. The glitches are what makes it stand out. Your friend has an incredible voice, reminds me of the late and (perhaps overrated - but superb) Jeff Buckley, or perhaps Thom Yorke of student favourites, Radiohead. What a voice!
The Piano part is gorgoues, padding the soundscape. Man, all of this is Top Banana! Certainly going to burn this off onto CD to have on in the Car.
Top class articulate ambient 'bliss' music. Seriously, I am not kow-towing or being sicofantic, i wouldn't anyway. A+
Who wrote the words?
Thanks for bringing some light into my day.
Tom.

excellent production wise.
Dont care for the skip drum effect myself.
But I really liked the over all beat you put in. Drum samples sound great (I assumed was samples, if its a live recording - its dead quiet, and keep that drummer handy - either way, nice.)
Loved the 'chill' reverb piano - and your friend seems to have pulled off a pretty damn good performance vocally. I might have tried a 'lower' lo-fi effect (a little less bass, a bit more mids) on the vocal fills, just to try tho??. - but very good in deed.
And you were nervous about getting in the vocals - lol
I see your just the modest type
Great work

trev- thnx guys really pleased you liked it. good to have feedback from musicians .
i wrote all the music and my friend wrote the lyrics (he is a songwriter and i cant write lyrics to save my life!!)
a few people have said they dont like the drum flams/glitches (they are actually in triplets over a swing beat which is why it sounds a little uncomfortable!!) i have taken alot of the flams out since the first effort because of this. maybe i need to remove all of it, but i just cant make myself as i really like it personally... hmmm
maddog6-'lower' lo-fi effect (a little less bass, a bit more mids) on the vocal fills, just to try tho??
trev-i might have a go at this low fi effect and see, thnx for the tip. yep youre right, they were drum samples.

Hi Trev:
I listened to Bliss and some of your other songs including some Band songs. I like Bliss, though, I think the off beat drum parts makes the beat off beat. I'm used to on beat music, so that off beat thing sounds odd to me.
I also like your site. The get a ticket thing is cool.
From listening to songs youve made, I can clearly see you are a talented music man.
God Bless you, and keep up the songmaking. It touches lives.

I'd leave at as it is Trev. It's a finisehd track. If some folks don't like the effect on the frums, that's fine. It's your creative and artisitic license. The world would be a boring place if all artisans modified their work to suit the desires of their audience. Fine if you're Pete Waterman making STEPS records, but true artisits / musicians create music / art / whatever for themselves.
Once again, great track. By the way, have you still got the first draft of your A-Synthmania track? I wiped it off my hard drive, and (sorry) prefer that to you final take.

hi thomas,
thanks for the positive comments, yeah the website was fun to do... still unfinished as of yet though!! never get the time! glad you liked it and the song... i know people keep saying they dont like the drum trips.... im till thinking about whether i have the heart to remove them or not...
is it just the beginning bit you dont like of the drums or the whole of the song?i ask that because ive removed alot of the skipping in the main song and just left it in on the intro.... do you think the whole song is still annoying you drum wise?
i noticed you stated 'god bless' in your post, did you spot the 'soap' forum then linked to my site?
hi tom-
i didnt use any 'frums' in the track just drums!!
i agree with artistic license comment, very true words!! but i jhave had ALOTof people say they dont like them... i dunno
older track? hmm not sure... which one do you mean? the very short unfinished one? ilkl try and find it, but not sure ive still got it... at worjk at mo so will check later... can u send me a p.m to remind me?
be intsrested to find out why you less like the finished one?

It sounded like on the overdubed vocal fill (overlaps with main vocals) used a lo-fi effect, but maybe it was how mic was held/EQing..?? I liked the direction you took with it - just seemed a little difficult to differentiate the 2 from the overlapping.
Damn! I need to get my production quality up to the standard your setting. LOL

Hey Trev:
it's the first 31 seconds part of the song where the drum beat sounds off at times. The rest of the drum part in the song is not a problem.
The God bless:
It's just I can feel your music, so I said God bless, wishing God will keep you inspired for it's such music and song that touches lives and does somebody some good when listened too.
BTW, what is the "soap" forum deal?
Great job on the song, I also liked Robsong, and it's extremely impresive what you did with the A Synth in asynthomania. I had liked the 1st unfinished version of asynthomania better than the finished version, too. But, now I like them both! I think the unfinished version got to the other melodies in the song faster than in the finished version. It seems more natural for the song to progress that way. Now that I've listened to it over and over, I see what youre trying to convey with the finished version as you more slowly progress to the other melodies in the song. Just my opinion, but both versions of asynthomania are good impressive work.
Cya around.

re drum in bliss... ok good i was thinking it was the whole song that caused people problems!!! i may just keep it that way then... just to annoy people ha ha!!
yes i see what you mean by the asynthomania version.... i guess the first was unfinished and therefore shorter so the melodies came quicker...
re god bless thing....
i am a christian (well i have some sort of a relationship with God anyway!!)and noticed you were possibly too (your sig )? wierd you might have heard that in my music? i write music with that in mind ie -from the heart and hoping it touches someone... so thanks for noticing thats a great compliment!!
the soap forum is in the enginecreations website.... emerging church etc.... have to explain in the forum as this is not really the right forum to explain.
good to talk

ok i found the old asynthomania song.... its not any different at the beginning, except the melody line comes in 20 secs before it does in the newer version. also the panning drums arent in it (just some other drums that i put in temporarily). i can send it to you both if you like by email? let me know if you do and send me a p.m with your email address.
im sure yourll find you dont like it as much though when you hear it again?

When I listened to this track, I told myself: "Кстати, а паренек-то талантлив!", which meant "Ho, this guy is talented!"
A beautiful song, man.

Hi Trev, I just got around to listening to the new version of 'Bliss'. Very nice. I am still undecided on the drum skipping thing, I think if I had this song on a CD, I would think that the CD was defective or something. In any case, as it is only in the beginning of the song now, it is not a big deal to me. As for the vocals, the singer has a great voice, and they fit well with the rest of your song. Great job. Do you still have the previous version around somewhere? It has been a while since I listened to it, and I am very curious to hear how it has changed, etc.

Your very welcome trevbushell - and the vocals sound really good.
The lo-fi effect there made the vocal fill much more clearer. (sounds like a oxy-moron, I know) but did seperate IT from the up from vocal.
SWEET!
As for the name... because its got kinda bluesy feel - the name bliss would be another oxy-moron - music style-wise (blues = sad not blissfull)
BTW - I rarly hear vocals as words, its almost always as notes - so I rarely hear the 'story' the words tell and rely greatly on the 'feel' of the composition.
So mabe and name like 'BitterSweet' or"Bliss in Blues" or "Bliss & Blue) or the more obvious (to me anyway) 'Always on my Mind' as its the only lyrics I remeber from just listening with out trying to figure out the lyrics... does that make sense? But I DEFINITLY hear HAPPY and SAD mixed emotions in it.
I might be able to give better input if I had a copy of the lyrics to read.
