KX mixer problem...
Can anyone please help me? I have installed the kx soundcard driver and it works great. When I try to bring up the mixer I get the following message...File kxskins.ksx not found or is invalid Application Aborted. I have searched my drive and cannot find an instance of kxskin.ini. I have tried to reinstall the drive pack several times, as I said the driver works great and there is a file named kxi.dll in my VST directory but no ini file. Could someone send me the default kxskin.ini file? I am using W2K pro with service pack 2 installed and have installed DirX 8.1....
Thanks in advance, bor

The kxskins.ksx file is the skin file for all the visuals when you open the different panels (i.e. mixer, router, dsp). search your system for any .ksx files and then right click on the tray icon and select skin/register new skin. A file browser should open up and let you go to wherever your .ksx file is.
If you don't find any .ksx files on your system then download one from the kxproject site.

I got the same trouble with the mixer file.
I have the kxskin.kxs in the same directory as the mixer setup file but it doesn't work.
the message says that the file is not found or is invalid.
thanks in advance

the mixer itself and the skin file file should be installed to your winnt\system32 folder
[provided you have run setup.exe]
you should run the mixer only from the system32 folder
(the link is added to your autorun as well to your start menu)
do NOT try to copy / install files manually, run setup.exe instead

I have tried to run setup at least a dozen times. Nothing has ever been added to my start menu or to autorun. I don't think anything is being written to the registry either. I have tried it logged in as a user with admin rights and logged in as admistrator. I cannot drop my firewall because I am on a T1 line but I disable virus scan while trying to install. The sound drivers seem to install OK and kxi.dll was created in my VST directory but none of the mixer files and dll's were created in my system32 directory. I am using 2kpro, service pack 3 and dx8.1. Before I tried the installation I de-installed the creative files, deleted the directory and used both jvtools and regedit to search the regestry for any mention of a CT device. When I run setup I am asked for my VST directory and then a KXI setup dialog comes up and tells me I have to reboot. After reboot it does not seem to continue the installation. Hope this helps. I am excited about these drivers and don't want to be a pain in the butt.

1. when you are asked to reboot - do NOT reboot
2. your OS might still be installing incorrect driver due to Microsoft's "digital signature" feature (kX drivers are not digitally signed). -- try using 'manual' method described on our site

hmm
I have the same problem. But if I am not supposed to reboot in any state of the installation, what should I do because when the reboot thing appears the installation stops. I can't press 'cancel' 'cos if I do it stops the installation... The mixer doesn't work on my win XP and I can't find it anywhere... please help...

>> is SB LIVE! pci 128
if it is PCI 128, it is not supported by our driver, because it is not 10k1/10k2-based

Same Problem Here
Win 2k pro all upto date
sound blaster live 5.1 value 10k1 chip onboard
kxmixer is not being installed
Getting the problem that v.3527 says has been overcome.
"Fixed bug with kxsetup unable to find kxskin.kxs file where special characters are used in the account names."
Tried kxsetup
Open kxmixer.exe get message straight away "severe error"
"File kxskin.kxs not found or is invalid Application aborted"
Not tried a manual install as I do not believe this to be a driver issue, Kxsetup seemed to install ok.

SB Live! is EMU10k1 based soundcard and it is different from SB PCI 128, which is based on ESS chip (not sure which). Could you please checke which one do you have (model number will tell everything CTxxxx or SBxxxx printed on the card)?

Then your device is kX compatible - the only problem is mixer
BTW, CT4780 (as far as I know) is not 5.1, but Live! Value card...
Live! 5.1 cards are usually marked as SBxxxx (SB006x, SB010x, SB022x) instead of CTxxxx.

Thanks Again
Had to do a manual installation of the driver, not from safe mode though (that just hung my PC)
Now installed it clearly is a 5.1 device with all channels working.
I've installed this to get Traktor 2.0 working, if I have anymore probs I'm sure you'll here.
Bye
Bert

I had given up on this but keep getting posts to my e-mail so I am back to put my 2 cents in. I have the CT4760 live value card. The sound drivers install OK and seem to work except that I get error when I try to configure direct-x. The ASIO full duplex seems to work great, but I still can't get the mixer to cooperate. I have tried installing it a dozen times, not rebooting, rebooting, manual install, moving files to my WIN32 directory and the mixer still gives me the same error that it can't find the skin file. Pulled the card and am running my c-media for now.

Well, I really have no idea why is this happening (must be some regional setting or something)...
Can everyone who has this problem give the detailed system configuration:
OS:
Service Packs:
Regional Settings:
OS Installation Dir: (Usually C:\Windows or C:\Winnt)
Soundcard (but I don't think it matters anyway):

Service pack 3
Direct X 8.1
C:\WINNT
CT4760
Mountain Time(US and Canada)
I have tried installing both as a user with administrative rights and logged in as Administrator.

Check Device Manager
Two important things to note when installing the driver:
1) Ignore *SYSTEM* messages to reboot, but NOT the *kX* reboot prompt. If you cancel the kX reboot prompt, it will not install the driver.
(Note to kX programmers - you might want to make this a little more clear in your dialog prompt and in the documentation.)
2) After you reboot, open Device Manager and double check that the kX driver was installed (in the sound, video and game controllers section) . Windows has a tendency to overwrite the kX driver with the Microsoft WDM driver. I got around this problem by moving the 10k1.ini (or whatever it's called) from the windows system folder to a temp folder. When the kX driver is correctly installed it will show up in device manager.
(Note to kX programmers - one way you might want to suppress WDM driver installation would be to move or rename the .ini file and let the user know what you're doing.)
Good luck to everyone installing.
And many thanks to the kX team for saving me the cost of a new sound card.
-Xar
