ATI Radeon Mobility 9200 - Dead End

Hello,

I’m having serious problems with my ATI Radeon Mobility 9200. The video card is running decent, but it’s failing on some of my 3d applications. I’m trying to update my drivers but HP only has the older ones.

I tried the Omega drivers and that just caused my whole display to get messed up (you would see what appeared to be two displays on top of each other and fuzzy). I did noticed that when I went to displays, the “LCD panel” wasn’t even on there and all the other ones just had disconnected by them. And when I would go to the ATI tray tools, and try to configure the monitor, it would say “this device is not supported.

So then I tried an alternative route. I downloaded Catalyst 5.7 from ATI’s frontpage and ran the DH Mod Tool. When I tried to install Catalyst, it still gave me the “.nfo” error message. So I installed it like the instructions said by going to device manager and updating the driver. WinXP warned me about the drivers not being tested, blah blah, I hit ok... rebooted and then... poof! Pure black screen.

I’m at work now, so I’m guessing I’ll have to run it in safe mode, delete catalyst and re-install my ancient drivers.

I ran driver cleaner and followed all instructiones carefully. I’m very down, it seems like nothing is working. I’m starting to hate my video card. And I regret getting a laptop too, by now I could have had a new card.

Any help?

Thanks!
Leo

System Setup:
HP Pavilion zt3280us
1.6 Centrino
512 RAM
80 gig HD
Windows XP Home

Its possible something was missed during the install procedure, but want to know, as a start, are you running SP2 with the latest drivers?

I'm running SP2, and I believe I have the latest drivers. I have windows update that checks frequently.

This is what I did...

Uninstalled Control Panel & Drivers
Rebooted...
Run driver cleaner, I cleaned with all ATI filters on.
Then did cab clean and picked "drivers.cab"...
Then I installed Omega Drivers (or in the case of the mod, I tried to install catalyst 5.7, then modded it and installed the drivers from there).
Rebooted...
Fuzzy, messed up screen (or in the case of the mod, pure black screen).

I installed the catalyst drivers on the front page at ATI.com, maybe there is another version I should have gotten?

apperently you're not the only one with the prob. I'm also facing driver probs with my mobility 9200. HP drivers are outdated. and the only alternative is OMEGA drivers which causes display overlay for my laptop. Some say it's the bios problem but i've updated my bios with the latest one from HP. Any ideas how to solve it?

Had same experience with 5.7. Suggest you try 5.6 based Omega drivers. They work for my M9. Get it and SAVE it if it works. That way you have something to revert to when 5.9 doesn't work either. ;-) Soon the files below may be much harder to get hold of. Hope the linked files below haven't been replaced with 5.8. Didn't actually d/l it to test.
