Help!! I can't get any sound when capturing video on ATI AIW 9000!!
Here is my gear. Dell Dimension 8300 w/ 2.6 gh P4 Processor and 512mb of memory. Soundblaster live, and ATI all-in-wonder 9000 graphics card. I installed the latest ATI Catalyst Control Center and removed the built in sound driver since I have the sound blaster live sound card. All my sound works find. But when I attempt to capture video from a Hi 8 video camera via S-video cable or a/v cable and the ATI capture card adaptor, I get no sound during capture nor is there any sound in the capture file. I am at my wits end with this. I really need to transfer all my Hi 8 videos to DVD. Sombody, please tell me what I am missing here! I have spent hours of frustration trying to get sound in the capture. Thank you, thank you, and thank you!

Have you connected the camera's sound into the video card correct? Then, did you make sure the analog connector from the video card goes into line in on the sound card? Do you get sound from viewing TV and such?
If you don't then something else is amiss, which is why you get no sound in your persuit of video capture

Yippee! I finally got the sound to work! The ticket was connecting the vid card to the sound card. (Duh!) I was under the impression that everything was captured through the ATI. For some reason, the s-video cable was not working, so I am using a standard a/v composite cable and it is working fine.
Thanks a bunch for the invaluable tip!!

Well, I thought it was working. I can hear the sound when I am playing the HI 8 video and capturing, but there is no sound when I play the MPEG file resulting from the capture. Just a some vibration sounds when I turn the speaker up.

Hmm...that could be a codec problem.
Have you tried encoding it to DivX or XviD maybe?

I know the software I am using (Ulead DVD MovieFactory 3 Disc Creator) has an audio capture option which is checked and it is set to capture audio from my soundblaster live card. If I encode it to DivX, will that effect my ability to create my DVD? Also, how would encoding it to DivX help with the sound?
Thanks again for your assistance in this frustrating matter.

It might help with sound if your problem is related to not having the correct codec to play the Ulead file. If you play the file in Ulead, do you get sound? If not then perhaps you have the wrong source selected on your SBLive card (i.e., Microphone instead of Line In)

I downloaded the latest XP codec pack and the ATI multimedia center with DVD decoder. When I play the capture file, it play through ATI file player, but still has no sound. This just makes no sense to me at this point. When will they come out with a more user-friendly means of a/v capture?
Thanks for your support and feel free to throw any other ideas in there.

Hmmm.. would it be possible to test it in a new machine, or the same machine with a different sound card? We should try and isolate the problem

Well, I suppose, I could try it on my Old gateway, but I don't know how well it will work on a machine with only 500 mh processor speed. I suppose I could give it a shot just to see if I get sound in the capture.
Thanks for the suggestion.
