Updating 4 in 1 Drivers Question Please.....

HI

Tried updating my drivers for an Asus A8V Deluxe. Rebooted and tried firing up a game and got a black screen.

Thank God for System Restore, or the developers who created it anyway.

When updating 4 in 1 driver sets, is there uninstalling involved of old version? Or just overwrite?

Thanks

As far as I've ever been able to determine, just overwrite. Even older ones seem to work that way.....in other words, if you stick in a new set of 4in1's and they don't work out for you, just install the older set and you're good.

Case in point.....

With the 5.00 4in1's The Bard's Tale would have sound issues during movies. I installed the 4.53 4in1's and now all is well.

System Specs

I'd just like to add that most VIA based systems running WinXP+SP2 seem to do fine without updating the chipset drivers, and that in fact not much is really changed when performing the update on top of SP2. Try just installing/updating the other devices as needed, like SATA or LAN.
