9800 XT - Fuzzy screen on dark web pages
Hi All,
I am running an Dell XPS Gen 3 w/ 256 9800 XT - Sony 200ES monitor. It seems that when I am browsing dark or black backgrounded pages my screen goes "fuzzy". The same holds true for my desktop if I choose a very dark background. I can stop the "fuzziness" by opening a dialog window or messenger, but as soon as I close them the "fuzziness" returns. On a suggestion I lowered my refresh from 80 to 70, and that seemed to help but not completely resolve the issue. My question is... does anyone have a clue as to what is causing this? Do I need a new card (it's only 1+ years old), or is it my monitor that need to be replaced?

Sounds more like the monitor to me. I have the same monitor on one box (I know its VERY old, but still works like a champ), and I think that monitor won't support anything better than 60Hz refresh at 1280x1024.
But, like I said, that is an old model. I bought mine in February of 1998, so it may be that it is just dying on you.

Thx for the reply! - I'm running 1024x768, and you're right the monitor is about 5+ years old. If it is the monitor... wouln't it be "fuzzy" regardless of the background color? I'm going to try using my kids monitor to see if the problem persists.

I don't know if it would be fuzzy with things other than black or dark screens. I don't know enough about CRT displays to say one way or the other.
Worst case scenario maybe you need to get your eyes checked, Lol.

Try the monitor on another machine. It may also be dirty power, so you could try using one of those power filter things and see if that helps. I notice when my dryer or washer goes on, my screen starts to "wobble" at the edges, but a UPS helped that (It has built in power filter)
