ATI: Xbox 360 will outperform PS3
"I think PS3 will almost certainly be slower and less powerful," says graphics guru Richard Huddy; backwards-compatibility explained.
In an interview with Web site bit-tech.net, ATI Developer Relations Manager Richard Huddy waxed technical about Microsoft's upcoming Xbox 360 and ATI's role in the machine. The 360 will be using ATI's Xenos graphics processor, and Huddy's job is to chat with potential developers and help them develop the tools that best use Xenos' capabilities.
With regards to the console's architecture, Huddy says, "It's way better than I would have expected at this point in the history of 3D graphics." He sees the unified pipeline, rather than segregated pixel and vertex engines, giving the 360 a huge a huge advantage in accessible processing power.
Huddy goes on to shed some light on backwards compatibility. Each Xbox game is written with specific Xbox hardware in mind, and the 360's move to PowerPCs and ATI graphics doesn't jibe with the Xbox's Intel chips and Nvidia graphics processors. To add to the difficulty, the 360 wasn't designed for backward-compatibility early on in development.

yes.
nobody will know the awnser to this until they are put side by side in a real world test.
ps3 has a lot more flexability & is backward compatible(or so i have heard). i think they are making a huge error not including a hd though.
i wonder if nv has expressed their opinion about xbox?

He's hardly going to say it will be slower is he?
But frankly what is the point? Both have different games, both use very different architectures, and both use differing graphics api's 360 being direct 3d, ps3 opengl. It will be possible to get games to ccross platform and look the same, but there will be games on both systems that will stretch them and be very hard to replicate on the other system, as both have their strengths.

It's all going to boil down to ease of development and that's something sony never has. And this is what will give the xbox 360 the advantage, besides microsoft knows software. And has one of the best looking API's out there which BTW every developer in the world already knows how to use.

Someone should ask him which is better: XBox360 or Nintendo Revolution.

[color=black]No one knows which system will outperform what. As said above, lets wait until the systems are out then you can do some testing. Regardless of which system outperforms which, who really cares? I mean if a system that proves to outperform the other has only a hand full of games worth playing while the other system has two or three times the amount of games worth play, what would the point of getting the system that outperforms the others? While I agree people should try the consoles themselves and figure out which is best, I think it's unreasonable to wait an entire year for Sony to release the PS3 before deciding what to purchase. You make comparisons to what is available at the time of purchase, not what may be available some time in the future.

last i heard Sony said something like "PS3 has room for improvements", and i thought that the decision to include a HD was still undecided. the real factor is whether the 360 can actually utilize it's higher specs and i'm guessing, no.
the Revolution will definately kick ass. will be likely be the best system spec wise, and they are including emulators for all older Nintendo consoles so that you can download classic games for NES, SNES, and N64. they also have backward compatability for GameCube games. last and best part, no monthly fee for online gaming.

Exactly what i was gonna say.
Since Xbox 360 will come a year earlier, I think it will have some advantages in term of the games available to the consoles. By the time that the ps3 available, I bet that all the XBOX 360 game developers will already learn about utilising all the xbox 360 potential.
It usually takes like a year before game developer starts taking the full potential of a console.
Also, if the xbox games are easier to develop, then it's a sure bonus for the xbox.

The PS2 was tougher to develop than the Xbox and look at where it is I think in my point of view that the PS3 will outperform the Xbox but hell... Wait and see?

Certainly the PS2 has been the biggest seller of the two but you could hardly call the XBOX a flop, especially considering the variations of mods and hacks available for it, from being used as a multimedia center running any kind of media such as DIVX, XVID, etc etc to linux mods giving browser access etc.
And the XBOX is a far superior machine to the PS2 technically, remember that.
