Mobility 9700 Help!!!!

I updated to my laptop manufacturers latest drivers, and now the display shows up as "vgasave" and wont let me install drivers. If i try to enable the 9700 in device manager, it enables fine, but it wont let me install drivers. It says i need to install the drivers over default drivers.
When i restart it goes back to vgasave. HELP!!

you say you enabled it from device manager, but have you tried manually installing the drivers from device manager or just from the setup program

you can try removing your display drivers from device manager then installing the windows drivers for it then install your manufacturers drivers

you could also try using driver cleaner to remove your drivers then reinstall them http://drivercleaner.net

Matth will become famous soon enough
System Specs

If you have an original driver/support CD for it, try going to the Display adapter in HARDWARE (not Display) - you should find that it's red "X"'ed.
Go to the driver tab, and choose rollback driver.

If that doesn't work, try updating from there and point it to the INF of the driver that extracted ... the SETUP application may be limiting you.

Since you have not posted in a while, has the issue been resolved?

Have you tried third party drivers (such as OmegaDrivers)? Have you tried mobility modder? They should generally allow you to install ATI latest drivers onto your mobile chipset.

XP generally works out enough to detect & apply the standard VGA driver to the majority of cards on the market if it's clueless as to it's actual model/type. However, if you end up with the "VGASave" service loaded for a video device then try reinstalling the chipset drivers.

YAY system restore worked flawlessly. Thank god i didnt diasble it, which is what i normally do. It said "unsucessfull driver removal", so i selected the day before (laptop makes a save every day... )
now it works fine, and i have installed the new drivers without any problems.

exclamation I had a similar problem with my laptop

Hey, guys

I had a similar problem with my laptop 2 months ago, it was with my laptop which had ATI AGP video card. Windows XP started booting up with VGASave drivers, instead of my video card drivers. I tried to update it by going into safe mode, but it told me access was denied. Also, it told me that there is an AGP controller resource conflict :-(

Anyways, I spent almost 10 hours trying to resolve the issue, researched for hours and hours using search engines. Tried reinstalling windows xp with SP2 twice by formatting hdds completely but that wouldnt work. So, I finally burned a knoppix on a CD, and gave that a try to determine if it was a hardware related problem. And I found that linux would work just fine, it was only the windows that had problem.

Realizing that there is no solution, I returned it to the store where I purchased it few years back, and good thing I had a warranty on it. After few days of hardware inspaction, they told me that they will have to replace the motherboard.

Of course, this took a very long time almost a month or so, but I finally got my laptop back with a new motherboard installed. So, the reason here I am posting all of these bs is that those who are having similar issues like me, plz dont waste your time, just take it back to the store where you purchased it (if you have a warranty ofcz), but if you dont have the warranty then you are screwed big time!

Hope this helps to other viewers.

Peace,
