ATI/Omega Driver on Sager 8790/Mobility
Hi,
I'm having a heck of a time with the Omega drivers. I initially installed them because they offered rotation for my second display of the extended desktop. Was working fine for a long time, then a glitch caused me to uninstall them and reinstall them. I was originally using Radeon Omega Drivers 2.5.36a (Catalyst 4.4) , which I of course tried reinstalling, plus uninstalled and resinstalled everything from the latest -->Radeon Omega Drivers 2.6.05a (Catalyst 5.1) <-- all the way back to the version I had. Nothing seems to work. The latest doesn't even show a rotation tab in in the catalyst control panel, and the ones that do, keep giving me the error message "The current driver does not support Rotation mode."
I'm banging my head. I have to have rotation on that second monitor....and please don't suggest pivot pro, that's what I started with and it gave me even bigger grief.
Thanks for any suggestions....I posted hear because I couldn't find support on the omegadrivers.net set.

Omega should have a new set out very soon which hopefully will support your card, however in the meantime, try cleaning your drivers with drivercleaner from www.drivercleaner.net then grabbing the latest catalyst from www.ati.com. After you get these drivers, apply the inf alts with driverheavens mobility modder from www.driverheaven.net/patje
If you need any specific custom resolutions you can try powerstrip. Have you tried ultramonitor 2 from realtimesoft?

Zardon,
Thanks for the great reply. Ultra mon sounds interesting, but I'm sure it requires a dual or triple head card. I'm using a laptop with an external DVI connected LCD. Don't think it applies, but let me know if I'm wrong. I do have a 3rd older monitor that would be useful, but I just don't see how this would work...don't think you can split a single DVI output.
Anyway, I will try the other things you mentioned. I thought using ATI Catalyst with Omega was a no no, but perhaps with the mods suggested it's fine.
It's all a bit confusing to me...I just want to get back to the stable setup I had. If your suggestions don't work, does Omega have any direct support?
Thx,
Mark

Zardon,
I executed the steps, but the driver doesn't seem to be able to utilize smartgart, or so it says when I try to use the most significant feature (to me), the monitor rotation. Any ideas?
Thx,
Mark

Hi Mark,
Ok well something sounds quite unusual here. When you ran drivercleaner did you uninstall your chipset drivers? if so install them again.
Did you make any alterations recently to your bios? have you fastwrites on or off in your bios?
Have you experimented with the rotation tabs in Catalyst Control Center via net (not ordinary CP)?

Yes, I did inadvertently uninstall the mobo chipset drivers using driver cleaner. They were prefixed with ATI, ,ie ATI IGP, ATI ATA RAID, etc, so I thought I was supposed to delete them. Very convusing.
Meanwhile, I have reinstalled both the original ones that came with the computer, and the latest from the Intel ste. Neither had the effect of allowing smartgart/smart service again. So I'm RMA'ing the computer, not just for this, but also because I have sporadic artifacting, like others have reported. Harrumph! What a hassle, especially when it's your main work machine.
Thanks for your attempt to help, of course, let me know if you have a flash of light!
Mark
