Only ran the benchmark once.
My Powercolor 9800 Pro is currently being replaced under warranty, I'll run the benchmark again when it comes back and see if that improves my score. This is bragging rights territory, I wish I had spent the extra money and bought high quality Corsiar ram, the trade off is that I have a healthier bank balance Might do some overclocking as well and see if I can crack the sub 5 minute barrier.

Why do you insist on using all these filters in Photoshop benchmarktests? They are totally irrelevant in a Photoshop workflow, no-one ever uses them. Besides, they are often written in bad code that (sometimes) makes the process stall (specially on Apple Computers). Skip all filters next time, please!
A more relevant Photoshop test should involve tasks that you use everday, such us
Opening a file
Convert to 16 bit/channel
Adjust levels
Adjust curves
Creating an adjustment layer + some blending mode
Crop
Rotate
CMYK
Resize
Sharpen/ Unsharp mask (OK, that is a filter)
Save
Anyway, here are the results on my Mac G5 Dual 2.0 with 1.5 GB of RAM
1: Texturiser Test (1)
6.3 seconds
2: CYMK Colour Conversion
2.2 seconds
3: RGB Colour Conversion

I really do agree with this. However, there are those that do use a good deal of filters for some tasks. I rarely touch filters since I just do photograph touch up. Everything I do in Photoshop now ran just as fast on my older hardware. Personally, I'm interested in seeing this ran on a PB G4 1.67ghz.

Aint there any other benchmarks for photoshop? Dont wanna say, this is a non-real-life bench, though I need something that benches more real life situations....

Am I the only person alive who uses filters or something?
How is this not a real life benchmark? It's an industry standard application using stock settings and out of the box features that are quite taxing on a system.
How much more real life do you want?

Total = 393.7
Windows XP Pro SP2 (32bit)

2. 6.9
3. 8.6
4. 6.4
5. 57

So 32bit XP runs Photoshop a little better. Not noticable in real time work environment. The real test will be when Photoshop CS2 comes out with 64bit compatibilty. That's when you will see the 64bit processors shine.

Nonsense, I use photoshop for my living and have done since 1989, some of the filters in this suite are used for CMYK photo work or other photo manipulation aspects, and those that arent are included in this suite for intensive CPU stressing and memory bandwidth - specific filters make calls to CPU instruction sets and others test dynamic memory bandwidth, if this suite was solely ran on resizing images and converting between color gamuts or channels it would hardly be a "thorough benchmark". If you want a benchmark catered specifically for your needs then make one with the settings you use on a frequent basis. This suite is an excellent all round comparison test with other systems and if you follow the results in this thread you will see just how different systems perform.

Photoshop filters arent "bad code" regardless of platform - PC filters arent coded "better" to make macintosh look bad - the knoll brothers (the original creators of this program via lucasarts) originated the program on the macintosh and until V5.5 the PC variant was sadly lacking, the issues you mention are primarily due to the fact that Apple Macintosh machines in 2005 are way behind high end pc equivalents in regards to the (dated) DDR memory they tend to use (also you have no bios options for altering timings or overclocking), also the risc processors, while powerful clock for clock when compared to AMD64 or intel P4 can struggle with certain filters - this combined with the fact Apple tend to use "average" Hard drive systems mirror your findings. You cannot "blame" a bench for using filters in the testing, this is in fact one of the greatest tests of CPU and memory bandwidth power. The usage of filters combined with everyday graphic bureau manipulations make for a well rounded suite of tests. If of course this suite doesnt "suit you" personally, then its easy to make your own suite.
Now I would appreciate that this thread is kept on track regarding test results, if you have comments or points to make then email me, and ill be happy to debate photoshop and its usage.

I just got home with my copy of CS 2. !st on my list was to run a bench but thats tough to do when it looks so much nicer then any previous version. Obviously a newer version should look better then the one before but not so much with past adobe products. Anyway I managed to hold off on playing with the new options long enough to run a bench. Here's mine.
AMD64 3200+
ASUS K8N Deluxe
1024MB Dual Channel DDR500
2x120GB Raid 0 Config
WinXP Pro
Photoshop CS 2
1: Texturiser Test (1): 2.0 Sec.
2: CYMK Colour Conversion: 5.8 Sec.
3: RGB Colour Conversion: 6.6 Sec.
4: Dust and Scratches: 7.2 Sec.
5: Watercolour: 19.6 Sec.
6: Texturiser Test (2): 4.5 Sec.
7: Stained Glass: 9.0 Sec.
8: Lighting Effects: 9.6 Sec.
9: Mosiac Tiles: 18.4 Sec.
10: Extrude: 59.6 Sec.
11: Smart Blur: 53.8 Sec.
12. Underpainting: 24.4 Sec.
Total time: 220.5 seconds.
My previous score:
Photoshop CS
1: Texturiser Test (1): 10.1 Sec.
2: CYMK Colour Conversion: 6.2 Sec.
3: RGB Colour Conversion: 7.8 Sec.
4: Dust and Scratches: 5.5 Sec.
5: Watercolour: 34.4 Sec.
6: Texturiser Test (2): 5.5 Sec.
7: Stained Glass: 10.0 Sec.
8: Lighting Effects: 8.0 Sec.
9: Mosiac Tiles: 22.5 Sec.
10: Extrude: 72.8 Sec.
11: Smart Blur: 50.7 Sec.
12. Underpainting: 46.7 Sec.
Total time: 280.3 Seconds.
Impressive improvements. Only this is when I ran the first bench in CS1 I was running WindowsXP 64bit. And today with the CS2 bench I am running regular windowsXP Pro. I went back to XP when a punk buster update caused my game to not run with windowsXP 64. That was a few weeks ago though so I may get the install XP 64 again either tonight or tomorrow. Once I do I will run a bench and post the reasults .
