what prog?
my wife is really getting into the whole photo thing. i heed help in choosing a prog that will give here good editing features, allow her to print panorama shots(you know that thingy the camera does that lets you take side by side shots if a scene) & is very intuitive & user friendly to use. & does not cost lots of $$$.(hope she does not see that part ).
any info/recs greatly appreciated.
did i mention it needs to be user friendly?

corel graphics suite may be your best bet then. PhotoPaint will do 90%of what photoshop does, including open the same files and sue the samefilters, and it is a good bit cheaper and simpler to use

one of the things she wants to do is make slide shows with music that can be watched on tv. does that change anything?

yea, i remember one of my friends set up a power point and incorporated music with it. I'm asking him how he did it right now.
EDIT: Well, i was just talking to him. Apparantly what he did was hook up his computer to his TV using the Video-Out, and recoded the pix onto VHS. While recording the pix onto VHS he also recorded the music to the VHS tape through his home stereo system.

windows movie maker will do the slideshows
and photoshop is no cheaper(actually, more expensive) then corel.
If you can apply for an academic license you can get them really cheap though
