Athlon XP Unlocking
Hey guys who's unlocked their Athlon XP? I need a nice and easy way to unlock mine. I tried filling the trenches with superglue but eventually the glue got underneath the tape and got on half the L1 bridges I heard that you can fill the trenches with just a crayon! I got a defogger repair kit, so I'll use that to connect the bridges. Oh yeah how do you get rid of excess superglue....I tried acetone (nail polish remover) and that didn't work

I unlocked a duron with nothing more than a pencil and a magnifying glass. Just be careful not to cross the bridges.

the pencil trick won't work on xp's. the bridges need to be filled.
I unlocked my xp1600 on the second try. First try I had some multipliers but not all. And I had the same problem as you as first with getting the super glue under the edge of the tape. Had to clean it all off and start over many, many times heh. But acetone and a q-tip cleaned mine up every time. The acetone will remove the super glue. The second time around I made sure the edge of the tape was firmly pressed down and used a needle to apply the super glue (stuck the needle in the tube or placed a bit of glue on needle then applied to L1 bridge) Once filled I shaved (gently shaved, really, be careful here with the razor part...) the mounds off. I masked, filled, shaved and then repeated this same process 3 times. Each time waiting 2-3 minutes before removing the tape and using a blow dryer to speed the curing process. Wide open now with full multi options. Good Luck Z!

I used clear nail polish to fill the gaps, much easier to remove then super glue.

My way to unlock my Athlon was simple.
In the laser cuts on L1 bridges you must put thermal grease - cheapy silicon compound, and next step was L1 bridges connecting (painting) with GLUKON (you can buy this in auto parts shops - this is for repairing back car window heating) and that's it!

I recommend getting this kit http://www.highspeedpc.com/Merchant2...tegory_Code=OC for only $11.99 and following the very easy instructions inlcuded. No way you can mess up with this and it's easily cleaned up if you need to rma the cpu or something.

The best guide I've found so far is this one from Tom's Hardware Guide.

Yeah, there is movie included too. They really did nice work with the whole thing. Once I get all that stuff, I will do the unlock too.
Zarathustra, which XP do you have? AGOGA? AGOIA? AROIA?

1) Beat with hammer
2) Solder the entire thing
3) Laugh at yourself for following my directions and wasting your processor.

The L1s don't get hot. The only difference between the green and the brown chips is age. The green ones are newer. As such, they might have come from better batches (read: AGOIA, AGOGA, etc), but there is nothing intrinsically better about green CPUs.
