Final Fantasy 3 (or here in the states it was entitled Final Fantasy 6). I cried, i laughed. Never again have i fallen in love with a game such as that. I still remember everything so vividly.
And Chrono Trigger

missed some important ones
You missed some oldies-but-goodies:
- Fallout 1 & 2
- Other gold-box series: Champions/Death Knights/Dark Queen of Krynn for example. I played Curse of the Azure Bonds like 3x in a row.
- Bards Tale 1, 2, 3
- ULTIMA!!!! 3, 4, 5, 7 pts 1 and 2 especially
- Wizardry
- Technically not an RPG, but Rogue/Angband/NetHack/Moira
- Maybe the original Battletech? More RPG than Mech based.
I'd have to put Fallout and Baldur's Gate I & II at the top of the list for all-time quality.
I'd also argue Diablo II + LOD is much superior to Diablo. Diablo was Rogue w/ graphics... Diablo II is its own game, especially with LOD.

have to disagree on FF7
I could never get into FF7. The combat system was very wonky, although this may just be the limitations of a console vs hotkeys/mouse ...how many menus did you have to scroll through? Blech.
Combat was exceedingly random, and the plot felt more soap-opera than epic. I gave up sometime after disc1.
Different strokes for different folks I guess...
BTW, maybe we should try to define why an CRPG is first? To me character creation is a big element; or at least the ability to select skills advancement for your character.

Morrowind and the Diablo games are at my top. But I think my favorite would have to be Orge Battle.
