Radeon 9000 o/c limits?
Hello all,
Can i get a consensus on what is the max core speed I can coax out of my Radeon 9000. It's one of those cheap OEM ones made by Sapphire Technologies, but performance and thresholds should be similiar.
Thanks,
Amadaeus

Welcome to DH!
I'm considering a 9000 (non- pro) & am interested too. Might I ask what you upgraded from & your system specs? Also what is your impression of the card so far? Is it a non-Pro or Pro card?
Lemme know which it is & I'll see if I can find some oc info for ya.

Specs available at: http://www.student.math.uwaterloo.ca/~r3lai/specs.shtml (Project Wolfgang)
It's the non-pro version, so original clock will be at 250 mhz.
I presume I'll be using Radeonators, and Omega drivers, failing that I'll be using catalyst.

Amadaeus,
Thanks for the link to your pages. I take it you're a busy guy & when time arises you'll post some benchmarks on the card? Very nice to 'hear' that the card is an improvement over the GTS card & has taken the load off the rest of the system. I'm still having a hard time finding non-pro benchmarks/reviews. So far I haven't found any & Mad Onion is down, so getting info there is a no go too.
I believe Riva Tuner http://www.guru3d.com supports Radeon overclocking now (Digital Wanderer is using it on his 8500) & I don't see why 15% on the core & the memory isn't possible. Might take a fan on the HS, but that's no biggie, IMO.
Do you have a 3D Mark bench score on the GTS? Could you possibly get one on each card & post the results to your pages or here, when time allows?
This 9000 is sounding better all the time & I take it you had no installation problems w/drivers & Windows?
Thanks & I'll keep looking for info to share w/ya!

with good cooling, some HS on the ram and some volt mods, they hit 340/340

3DMark
3D mark: http://service.madonion.com/compare?2k1=4806777
Note that this is purely temporarily. System to be nuked and winxp to be installed.
Any chance I can overclock to 275 without extra cooling. I noticed the sapphire card doesn't come with a fan, and placing a fan on top of the heatsink will make it not fit into the box.

Amadaeus,
Since the 9000 non-Pro card is new & few have it > you're the one breaking new ground. I've looked for oc info & it really isn't out there. There is lots of 9000 Pro oc's (as others here have posted) but not 9000's.
Why won't it fit with a fan on it? Do you have a card below it in the way or ??? There are 'thin' fans available if there is just a lack of room for a 'thick' fan or could you move a PCI card down one slot?
Any chance of a pic of the card, out of the case & installed?
Your score looks decent for a 100mhz FSB CPU ~900. A little ocing & tweeks & I think 4k should be no problem. Can you give me some details on what card you did have & the improvements you're seeing? How is the graphic quality?
I'm looking for oc info to share because I'm going to get a 9000 PCI card & want to know all I can beforehand.
Thanks for the post & keep 'em coming, plz.

ATi made the non pro 9000 to be non-overclockable. Until someone makes a program or a bios flash, you can't overclock it. (It overclocks, but when 3D-apps run, it resets)

Then I ask - is it worth the money. You can get 9000 PRO over 9000 for 25$ more (in Croatia). And it is a lot better (and can be OC-ed). So what?
Or you can get 8500 for nearly same price like 9000, and 8500 is better than 9000.

I think that the 9000 is made for OEM's like DELL. But the 9000 Pro and 8500 are for extreme gamers and overclockers.

Hi All
I got Gigabyte's Maya r9000 (non-pro) I gone mad with Oc-ing but got no results, just like someone said, its locked, but I menaged to get Artifacts on screen i 3d mark but no performance increase....
Hope that someone will make an bios tool that fixes it...like for Nvidia cards....
As for the price of r9000 and r9000 pro it's like 90$ and 125$ (for Pro) and 8500 is still around 145$ so I can't see that 90$ and 145 are similar , maybe you are reffering to 8500LE ???
btw. R9000 really does not need a heat sink, but if you want one, get chipset cooler, it fits perfectly all together with screws for around 5$ !!!
regards from Serbia

That's my score with the Sapphire 64MB DDR. I've been impressed with the performance thus far, and it's definitely been worth the $65 I spent on it. I upgraded from a Radeon 32MB DDR, and have seen a decent increase. Here's my Radeon's 3d Mark score: http://service.madonion.com/compare?2k1=4888595

the 9000 should overclock about the same as a 9000 pro when it comes to gpu speed but all of the non pros i have seen have had 4 ns ddr on them which isnt exactly great. i tried overclocking my 9000 pro with the fan on it unplugged and once i got past 285 for the gpu it would lock up. i spent the extra money and got the real ati 9000 pro card and it was worth the extra cash as it comes with 3.3 ns ram instead of the 3.6 on the saphire cards. with no cooling or voltage mods i can get the card to run 295 gpu and 315 mem. my power supply is holding me back though i believe as when i tried my card on a friends computer w/ a stronger psu i got the gpu up to 310 without artifacts.

I guess I am the only one that have the Point Of View Variant of the Rad. 9000 Nonpro.
Not in any of this forums anyway.
Perhaps its because of the Vendor or something .
tell me.. Is it any way to speed up this card , or have i reached the limit.?
got about 4800 points in 3dmark 2001 SE

actually, 9000 non pro CAN be overclocked. you have to use the latest version of powerstrip to do that. i've managed to o'c my gigabyte r9000 to 260/440 with a PS fan blowing at it. im planning to put some ramsinks on... the 4ns ram didn't help at all when it should be running fine at 250(500). what if i increase the mem clock straight to 250? will it explode? hehehe...

I can back that up. I didnt belive it was possible but I decided before I disagree I would have a look. I managed to find a proggy that overrides the ATI overclock protection and allows you to overclock the 9000 NON-Pro | |
