half life 2 hands down far cry was good but it was too much shoot everything. hl2 has some puzzle solving though its mostly straight forward.
On second thought HL2 = Far Cry in GAMEPLAY. Far Cry u could go wherever you wanted really, more than one approach. Still best water effects i have seen in Far Cry.

HL2 has by far the best water we've seen! it looks like actual water. the reflections and when things go into it they become unclear and wavey.
farcry, yes water is/was impressive, but it looks like it is taken out from a vacation brochure, too idyllic and too blue!

I voted farcry. I am sticking with my initial decision not to ever play HL2. I will not be supporting valve.

having not completed HL2 yet, I dont think I can vote for it as I dont know how good I'll think of it in a few months time. CoD:UO was absolutley excellent. It really felt like I was helping out the allied forces in what was probably the most important conflict ever (for Europe anyway), rather than one man taking on the world by himself and winning. Saying that, FarCry looked beautiful, the levels were huge and it was fun to explore, and I know many disagree but the way some of the mersonaries attacked me from sniper towers, in vehicles and flanking on the ground I thought was superb. So it gets my vote

This is just for the water bit... Here is Far Crys water next to HL2's water... Tried to take similar scenes just to show the diff... I find that HL2's water is clearly the winner!

I say Half Life 2 without a doubt. It seems to the the best all around game! Excellent Graphics, Gameplay, Physics, Scalability, and a high "fun factor" as well, although it's too bad the multiplayer aspect of it is non-existant. (CS:S doesn't count, in my opinion )
I'm patiently waiting for HL2 Deathmatch...

Yes you can!
It may seem like a bad reason, but during the whole date fiasco and with the numerous disappointments I have moved on to other games. I have completely lost interest in valve. I even retired CS and HL. I also do not like the fact that you need, no wait must have, steam to play the game. I am with some of the others that do not approve of needing to ask permission and check in with papa every time I want to play something that I would have paid $60 to obtain.
I am looking forward to Guild Wars, Battlefield 2, and MGS3:SE. I am also thinking about getting World of Warcraft, but I am still thinking about the fact that the game is $15 a month and I have not really decided if it is worth that price.

I have all 5 of these games and I have to vote for HL2. Farcry would be second, CoD third with Doom3 and MOH:PA sitting at the bottom (although it is the bottom of a rather impressive pile).

Yeah I can understand that, there are cracks around though that disable any form of "checking", which are unfortunately as you would expect being used for warezed versions which we will not go into here. However if you bought the game ethically I think you would have the right to use this.
I understand your views and admire your willpower but you are missing probably the best FPS ever made to this point bud

If you ever experience Steam inaccessibility through any numerous occurrences it becomes incredibly hard to disagree with his opinion. It happened to me a few nights ago when my network hub failed and as a result i couldnt get online, i thought i could at least play HL2, but i launched Steam and it refused to go into offline mode, instead it only cited a network access error, Steam and the game were fully up to date and it was incredibly annoying knowing that i couldnt play because of a mere technicality - the game was there, i've played it before, but it was a no go because of the Steam requirement - wonderful.

You may be right. I do agree with you about the no-cd patches that are released for games. If you buy the game you should not always need to have the original cd in the drive.
I have looked at most of the reviews that have been made available for HL2 and according to some sites the only thing that is great about the game is the graphics. I am not going to quote any one site over another, but what I was able to gather about the game is that HL1 has a better story and HL2 appears rushed towards the end. The game is somewhat longer than HL1 and has a disappointing ending.
On another note. Activation is becoming pretty common and I do not disapprove having it as long as your personal information is kept private. Having to basically "activate" the game every time to play is not acceptable.
