going to buy 6800 or 6600 series card..but witch one?

I was wondering would I see big difference from gf4ti4200 if I go to 6600 series or should I go straight to 6800 (LE,NU,GT). And what is the performance difference between LE and NU? And will 6800 LE be able to run hl2,doom3,farcry with max settings @ decent fps?

Well normally, HL2 should run NP... Just don't expect AA or AF with that kinda card. I think the LE is on par with my 9800 Pro (or just better) so ya, your gonna love the difference! Doom 3 will run fine and so will Far Cry... I think it's worth it....

i think with a 6800le you can play games like farcry with max settings at 1024x768 not higher. Perhaps you can unlock all 16 pipeline on it.

I was thinking to buy Gainward GeForce 6800 LE 128 Mb 250€,
Cuz Gt and Ultra cost too much for me but thx anyway.
Or should I wait for 6600Gt?

in a german pc magazine they tested 2 6800LE`s, a MSI and a Leadtek. The could both mod to 16 pipelines without any problem.

Don't count on activating pipelines. If you want 16 buy 16.

I guess you still have AGP?
Then I would go for the GeForce 6800GT (I have the PNY Verto 6800GT and it runs above Ultra specs).

If you have PCIe well then I would think twice to go for a 6800GT or a 6600GT due to the SLI capability...

Stay away from those Asus cards. they are half 6800NU and half 6800GT. moreover, they are overpriced.

What is your budget? The 6800GT is way better, but it is also about 2x the cost.

they are similar but the 6800le is slightly better for 2 reasons:

1. It's memory has a width of 256bits
2. you can unlock all 16 pipelines

I have a Leadtek A400 TDH 128 which I used rivatuner to turn on all 16 pipelines. I am very happy although there is no doubt in my mind that the 256 model would be faster, the main thing is that this card plays my games very smoothly, so good enough for me. Waoting now for the X850, 6800XT dust to settle- probably even going to wait for next gen to come out and stabilize before throwing money at it...

I think the 128mb versions would be ok if you don't use AA or limit yourself to like 2x at the higher resolutions. Also limiting texture quality down a notch may help as well but for the most part they should fly as fast as the 256mb versions except when using 4x AA with the higher resolutions.

Thats not tru, the 6600gt is better then 6800LE, and i'd go with 6600GT considering it aint much worse then 6800, and its twice as cheap =/ ?

I would get the 6800 128 standard if I were you. At least it's 256bit, it's at 12 pipes but can be opened up to 16. I've done it, that's what's in my daughters PC.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't all the 6600/128 series only 128 bit cards? If so, for the money the 6800 standard is the better card and the deal.

Thumbs Down!

John is right, the Geforce 6600-series all do have a 128-bit Memorybus...

Here is a list about what you can afford:

Name|# Pixelpipelines|# Vertexpipelines|Memorybus|# Transistors|Modability|Videomemory
Geforce 6800 GT | 16, 6, 256-bit, 220 Million, NONE, 256 MB
Geforce 6800 'Vanilla' | 12, 5, 256-bit, 220 Million, Reasonable High, 128/256MB (<-not sure)
Geforce 6600 GT | 8, 3, 128-bit, 143 Million, NONE, 128/256 MB
Geforce 6800 LE | 8, 4, 256-bit, 220 Million, High, 128 MB

When is a Geforce 6800-series recommended?
- If you want to play in high resolutions at high detail (large amount of Videomem necessary)
- If you are going to existensively use Anti-Aliasing and Anisotrophic Filtering (128-bit is way to narrow for an ammount of data of that size)

I think I am pretty clear about this ... Oh by the way, whatever you do, you should forget buying a 6600GT 256 MB, the 128-bit Memorybus makes the extra 128 MB Videomemory inusable...

Sad

Unfortunately, the price tag is crazy, at least for me
Othervise I won't think twice about it, of course...

...at least it probably could run well with the modern drivers, witch refusing to work on my F5600XT
