9600LE...what are my limitations..

i got 512 ram, amd 3000, asus motherboard, and the 9600LE 256mg

what are the limitations of this card,,

omegas catalyst will be installed....

far cry?
doom3 ?
half life2?

i cant seem to find any reviews.....

i dont know if i should exchange it for a 9600se or 9600xt ..... whats the difference

can anyone find me any reviews for the 9600LE,,, and i can find is people selling it....

The 9600 XT is still the performance model, if you can afford one of those go for it.

I built a machine for a friend with one at the beginning of the year, he's prety pleased with it and the performance is good. Not quite 9800 Pro level but good, make sure it has 256mb tho.

Check out the tommshardware vga card charts to see where the performance comes in the scheme of things. http://graphics.tomshardware.com/gra...004/index.html They don't list the LE model but I seem to remember it being similar to the SE in performance (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

9600se/le 325mhz core clock, 64bit memory,400mhz effective memory clock

9600 pro 400mhz core clock, 128bit memory,600mhz effective memory clock

9600xt 500mhz core clock, 128bit memory,600 mhz effective memory clock
+ Over Drive feature! Thermal sensor on chip!


64bit memory = 1/2 the normal memory bandwith of 128bit
(a real performace killer)

cowboy ive done a bit or rearch and found that the 9600LE is a 128 bit memory.... where do u see it was a 64 bit....? and from the results on toms hardware guide the se dont look to good...

some cards are being advertised as 128bit, but it's a typo, end up being 64 bit card Beware Decptive advertiseing.... 64bit being marketed and sold as 128bit

you'll notice it says:
Support Microsoft DirectX® 9 compatibility and full DirectX® 8.1
thats whats printed on 9200's becouse thier only a dx8.1 part (hardware support) !!!

9600's have full DX9 support and full DX8.1.. etc (hardware)
the useally say: "Industry leading DirectX 9.0 support"

to bad you not in the us could cut you a deal on a 9600xt ,

yea it looks ok i'm guessing thier websites a bit messed up wich
is a bad sign but they are a "value" maker of cards

You should be ok, just make sure they have a decent return policy in case you change your mind or find something screwy...

As for the card handleing far cry and hl2, yes and no! It may play far cry on low/medium settings, it may play hl2 at low res and settings....I say this becouse I have a 9600xt (500/600) 128mb and i'm getting 28-60 fps in CS: sourse (1024x768) and far cry is playable on meduim/high.... Same thing for doom III about 28-30 fps .... this card plays everything ok but not enough to be able t crank up the resoultion, eyecandy, and AA/AF

the games will play just fine but you many not get verry good frame rates
If I were you I'd save up a little extra money and buy a better card! Something like a 9700 pro or 9800 pro....

the video card is one of the most important things that impacts how well games run!

i would like to get a better card like the 9700pro but im buying the whole system at once and its setting me back like $2100 which is basically all i got... i guess this card will have to do me for now untill i can afford to get a bettr one.... but i will see if i can get the 9600XT if it is only like 50 bucks more or something ,,, ill borrow the money...

your welcome and belive me the 9600xt is way better then 9600le

175 core/ 200mhz memory (about an 3.2 gb more of memory bandwith)
thats enough differance to make a radeon 7200/7500 card out of

then you've got over drive on top of that wich increases the clocks according to gpu temp

really your alot better off for gameing with the 9600xt, well worth the extra $50

If pish come to shove look for a 9600 PRO even if you have to buy it some were else! it's the middle ground @ 400 core /600 memory
