You click the mem button, play around and possibly mess up your graphics card. However these settings are not supposed to be permenant, but if you manage to damage the memory chips with excessive timings you might be in trouble. Permenant changes to the timings can be done editing the bios in rabit and flashing the card but its not really someting you should mess about with unless you are sure of what you are doing.
donnybrasco, did you try finding out if there is a bios around which is compatible with your card? If there is one you could flash your card with it or even use rabit to check that the timings now reported in atitool are accurate, I'd suspect that they are since the changelog for atitool says that the memory timing changes are not permenant. A good place to look for a bios for your card is on the atitool homepage, if there isn't one from you manufacturer. The address is www.techpowerup.com.

what will these bios do? will they set back my memory timings to the orginial factory settings?
yea i didnt know what i was doing.... i talked to someone who had their memory timings tweaked but he said they worked.... guess im not doing that again.
i dont follow you when you say check with rabit.... what is that?
im not at the comp right now, i dont know what memory i have off the top of my head... question.... well on that web site it says (If possible include memory manufacturer and speed (last two digits on memory chips))
yea im screwed if thats the only way to find out.... AS 2 epoxy doesnt come off.... i just put on zalman HS(only used thermal paste part for GPUdont worry) and with BGA ramsinks on the rams
lol tell me if there is a way through to veiw the memory details with software
does it really matter what one i DL. in terms of compatibility... they are all for 9700 pro right just diff versions... or do i have to match with my specific vid card memory...
my best bet is for someone to have a 9700 pro to DL atitool and tell me the settings if they have not been tampered with.... anyone? or any suggestions?

have you restarted your computer? it resets all the timings. if you have well maybe you've fubar'd your card there. what timings did you change? I have a 9700 pro, however i have permantely changed my timings with rabit (Radeon Bios Tuner).

if you used atitool they reset when you restart your computer. so if you have restarted, and still get the problems, its not the timings.

do you mean not permanent as in if ati tool isnt running (ex: like it needs to be for the OC speeds to be set) then the memory timings goes back to normal? but if i have it running then the settings i messed with are then now in effect?

um no. The timings stay the same until you restart the computer, then it resets back to stock.

That's pretty much how you'll have to do it. It's a slow and painful process, but in the end you'll squeeze out a (very) small increase in performance. I used RaBit to edit my memory timings and it took awhile as well.
You pretty much can play with every timing except the CAS setting for sure. I don't know which are available in ATITool, but the best way to find is try with small decrements of each value, except CAS.
