Buying new Laptop--- HELP!!!

i am looking to buy a new laptop mainly for gaming,, right now i have a toshiba a33 with radeon 9100agp,,,

Does anyone want to reccomend a good lappy, not to expensive but not to cheap, IT HAS TO BE ABLE TO PLAY FAR CRY AND HALF LIFE 2---

if anyone wants to trade my old one for a better one (plus cash obvisously) let me know....

is alienware the best around......?

I would look at Dell Inspiron XPS, about $2100 US.

purchased an Emachine M8611 for about 1500 bucks, AMD 64 althon, mobility radeon 9600 graphics...runs damn good, no problems with gaming...but hey..its a laptop for christs sake, if you want the brass ring, get alienware products.

Really? I didn't realize Alienware laptops were that inexpensive. They are great performers. Also, check the screen size and native resolution of the built in LCD display - it'll have to satisfy you for the life of the machine, and the native resolution should exceed whatever resolution you would be playing games at - keeping in mind the speed and the power of the built in video card/chip.

Anyone know about their support? A good percentage of laptops - regardless of brand - require service during the warranty period. It's an important consideration. I haven't had any contact with Alienware...

checkout the site www.alienware.com for 2300 canadian you can get a decent lappy,, dont know bout the screen... but for that price ive decided to get a desktop anyway, u can get a shit lappy or a excellent desktop for the same price...

FalconNW makes better laptops than Alienware. much faster(you can even get RAID on them, though that doesnt give a great performance upgrade) and better in general. really nice and thin too, but the battery life on the gaming one leaves something to be desired.

Hope someone answers this before tomorrow bec by then It might be too late.

Ive got a P4 3.2Ghz (laptop) 800MHZ FSB, 128MB ATI MOBILITY 9700, 60GB HD, 1GB 400DDR RAM, Wireless LAN, Bluetooth, DVD-R, Digital Camera

Thing is I might be selling it (even though Ive only had it 2 months) to get another one, Ill prob end up getting the same one again (long story, dont ask) but I want to get one with a 256MB ATI card in it. So here's my questions:

1. What laptops can you get with a 256MB ATI card in it? Bearing in mind that Im in the UK, Ive seen the dell Inspiron 9100 (XPS) and have had a quote of £1500 but dont think I want one thats that chunky.

2. On ATIs site they go on about a new PCI Express Mobile X600 Chip, but its only 128MB and I cant find it in a laptop anyway, but how long till the PCI express come out in a laptop?

Ive seen somewhere else thats got a laptop with a 256MB 9700 card in it, but its 40cm long! Mines only 30cm long now, another 10cm in quite a bit.

Anyone got any ideas?

k, first of all, you dont want or need PCI express. If it was on a motherboard, you'd have room for upgradability and have a card that could actually USE that bandwidth, but if you buy a laptop that wont be the case. You basically cant upgrade the cards(i mean you CAN but usually its difficult) and the x600 is worse than the 9700.

I believe that falconNW computers have cards with 256mb of memory. Also Alienware computers might. Both of these are expensive though.

Have you looked at the ferrari? its a good little computer and I THINK it has what you're looking for(not sure though)

honestly though there is only one game that would use that much ram(doom3) and you really dont need that much on a card anyway. I realize next-gen stuff is comming out that uses that much, but it'll still run real well on 128.

Another problem you have to deal with is that ATI's bug with 256mb of memory on their cards was fixed but not for laptop cards. Remember that ATI doesnt release driver updates for laptop cards, laptop companies do. Said companies dont really update very often and are always far behind, so you may never get to utilize that 256mb of ram.

Thing Is I want one with a 256MB ATI card, but not one thats huge like the 17" ones, I want a 15" one.

And I dont really want a Dell
