I would personally like to see the X700 in AGP flavor. There isn't a need right now (besides just plain being nice) to upgrade to PCI-Express and a lot of people like myself are happy with their current AGP platform. There should be a market for an AGP version of the X700; at least for the time being. I think ATi should really bring one to the market and expand their current selection of the Xx00 series of cards.
I'm looking for a mid level upgrade from my 9500 Pro soon and a 9800 Pro would be nice; but if the X700 is available and is a newer generation card I will go for the X700 instead. My 2 cents; ATi should bring one out.

I absolutely wanna see this. I will buy one if they make one, and believe strongly others would too. PCIe technology is far from being in every computer household, like AGP is (with exception of those with intergrated vdeo). I thought it was silly for ATi to suggest that users get an 9800 series card if they wanted an AGP X700. The X700 series has the newer technology and isn't comparable to the 9800s in my opinion.
Give us the new technology, like you have always done, ATi! Please!

I agree; if ATi releases the X700 for the mid level market I think a lot of people will purchase them -- including myself. Basically I don't see a reason why ATi shouldn't bring it to the market.

I think this would be a great addition, Like Dom said PCie is far from mainstream, and this could just be the right budget~performance card that plugs the gap for people holding out for performance yet maintaining the budget, without wanting the leap to PCie. I help a lot of people who are not experienced with PCs usually with Onboard VGA and often find they're wanting to get into gaming but are failed with lower range cards not offering the performance they need and the top range simply being to far from there reach in terms of price. An AGP X700 would be the ideal compromise. My 2c.

Yes, I think it would be a much needed addition to their agp line. And like others have said agp is still very much alive, is still used by 98% of users out there and most have of them have been waiting for a nicely priced card like this to fill the spot.

When I heard the X700xt was going to be PCIe only I was very disappointed. I need to upgrade my 9500pro and want to go agp one last time before PCIe.
Will I have to go with a 6600GT???

Mid market level graphics cards never interested me personally, but it would be stupid for ATi not to make an AGP model, simply because pci-e needs time to settle into people's homes as said by others in this thread.
What is AGP today? 95% of the market?
I think the change will come AGP to pci-e, but it will take some time. I think most people are like I am - sitting on a perfect board with nice ram and nice cpu and really see no reason to upgrade my mobo to a pci-e version, because it gives me no noticeable benefits ram- and/or cpu-wise.
I am sure the marjourity of people will upgrade to a pci-e board as soon as next generation cpu's or ram demand it.

Ack! Don't say things like that. nVidia is heresy.
j/k
In any event I'm a fellow 9500 Pro owner looking for an upgrade and the X700 would be just the thing. I wish I had $500 for an X800 XT PE but Halloween Horror Nights 14, and a little thing called Christmas are getting in the way of that vision so I would be estatic if ATi brought the X700 to the (AGP) masses.

I would pick one up for sure to upgrade my 9800pro. I dont plan on getting a new mobo for a while and pci-x is not an option for me but an agp version would make me a happy gamer.

no its not, I explained all this in my review, the X700 has faster clocks and also has support for the new technology such as 3DC.

for those who missed it last week when I asked ati about a X700 on AGP they said this.
ATIs response:
"we currently have no plans for an AGP version of X700. Right now AGP users still have access to RADEON 9800 series of products, which would be very close to the X700 series performance wise, so product differentiation would be very difficult and having both products available at the same time might confuse some users.
If we see the demand for X700 in the AGP space we would use a bridge to have the PCI express chip running on an AGP board."
so you can see why im trying to get a consensus of our membership.

I think that it will be a bad idea to keep making AGP based cards. Here is your reason to move to newer technology and help phase out the old. If ATI keeps on making AGP then the old tech will never get phased out in a timely manner. I would rather see them push for PCI-E and force us to upgrade to get the latest and greatest.
