Is the difference between them really big? With similar parts would the 939 blow away a 754 or is it just beating it by a little? Also since the 939 is new its most likely going to be able to upgrade to better processors easier right?

Performance wise (I could be wrong) I don't see much of a difference; it depends more on the processor used (FX51, FX53, etc.) or the chipset than the actual socket type I think.

The 939 will be the one that AMD will be releasing processors like the FX57 I believe.

939 has a set of regular 64s too but im not sure which one to buy. My thought is that the 939 will be faster and it will be more compatible with the new stuff thats coming out. But is the added preformance worth the x amount of dollars that it costs?

I think mainly the advantage will be to support some of the best 64-bit AMD CPUs available and also support for their future CPUs like the FX57. As for speed I don't see much of an increase (if any) from 754 as that's processor and chipset dependent mostly (I think).

Go with S754 unless you plan upgrading the CPU you buy fairly soon. Everyone says S939 is so great, but your basically, in my opinion, paying a bunch extra for dual channel support and some future proofing. But if you've got the money go for the best you can get. If i was on a budget though buy a Chaintech VNF-250, Epox 8KDA3+/J, or the new DFI board. The epox/chaintechs OC wel land are dirt cheap (the chaintech can be had for $75), and while the DFI costs a bit, it is an OC beast. As for CPU buy a 3000+ CG or a 3200+ if you have the money. Then overclock

s939 A64 3000+ $173 w/ free shipping!! The cheapest s754 A64 is 2800+ around $145, spring for the 939 for only $30 more! Totally worth it, in my opinion!

Thanks, fortunately i didnt order it yet. Seeing as i was going to buy the 3200 for the 754 it would prob be the same price. With this new information I might get the 939 so i dont have to upgrade my mobo if i ever get a new processor. Thanks Masshass.

hmm A64 Socket 939 seems like a great buy. A modern socket with good upgradeability. (must be a new word )

939 has dual channel memory... so anything that eats up memory bandwidth will perform much better on a 939 system.

AMD are still yet to release a few high-end chips and they will be 939 only... like the FX55 and FX57

So if you buy a Socket 939 motherboard, you could be sure to make an upgrade in a year or so?
