9500NP black screen problem

I tried search and nothing was quite similar to the problem i am having. I recently installed the latest omegas and after the installation it says it will run some tests after the computer is restarted. After the restart my monitor goes into standby(only one orange led is on) then the computer stays that way until i turn it off/restart. Upon the restart the computer does the same exact process with the monitor going black, the keyboard not doing anything. is there a way to fix this?

Here is what I would try.

1:Boot your system into "Safe Mode"
2: Go to add/remove programs and remove all ati software, MMC, Control Panel, Drivers etc.
3:Run Driver Cleaner and remove all traces of ATi, then while not necessary you may also want to run the Cab cleaner as well
4:Reboot let Windows load default driver
5: Do a fresh install of your new video card drivers

Sounds like the ATI auto detect that sets your resolution is messing up. It supposed to auto set the refresh rate and resolution...On my monitor it goes to 1600x1200 after the screen goes back and comes back up.

What monitor are you using and have you loaded the drivers for it?

Yeah the monitor probably has an auto protect feature or something.. But isn't the default for Omega and Cat drivers usually a resolution that pretty much any monitor can display?

I get the same thing mate.
After completely removing the drivers using the method suggested, I cannot get any other omega driver, or ATIs own to run properly.
Have used driver cleaner, and reinstalled motherboard drivers for ASUS A7n8X deluxe (latest nforce drivers).
OpenGL and Direct X games / screensavers etc no longer work, and Ati tool gives an error then runs and diaplays no clock speeds (they are filled with 0's).

Help desperately required!

I thought my card was broke until I came here and read your comments!

I am trying something new

After trying again to remove all trace of drivers, and then installed drivers (omega previous) that I kne worked, to no avail again.

Have taken my ATI 9500 out and reinstalling my Geforce 4 ti4200 temporarily, then will reinstall ati card (just to test the problem isn't external of card).

I really think my card is now broke, though logic tells me something is askew elsewhere.

I'm clutching at straws now!!

I did the above (removed all ati, and used driver cleaner, then installed my geforce ti card).
The ti card worked flawlessly, as I thought it would.

Took nvidia card out popped back in the ati 9500 and installed the 2.5.4.4 omega drivers that used to work.
Again I get black screen problem 8-(

I removed all ati/omega again and then installed latest omega 2.5.5.1.
They nstalled, no black screen, but no opengl games or direct x work.
Running ati tool and it does not show core speed either, zeroed out.

Now I'm thinking my card has been killed...

Have you solved your problem?

Have you solved your problem?
Reinstall windows-- then don't switch back and forth between ATI and Nvidia cards without expecting problems.

Did you use Cab Cleaner?

Did you let it finish?

Did you try the caRD in a different PC?

Did you check the fan is working?

Did you check the heatsink is attached properly?

I guarantee you no drivers killed your card..

If you think it's dead, send it to me. I'll pay shipping.

EDIT-- ''

did you re-install Direct X?

{{I don't really want to do this with XP. Unless I could install on top of itself like you could with windows 98}}

Did you use Cab Cleaner?
{{YEs}}

Did you let it finish?
{{YES}}

Did you try the caRD in a different PC?
{{No}}

Did you check the fan is working?
{{No, will do so}}

Did you check the heatsink is attached properly?
{{No, will do so}}

{{I didn't think the drivers killed the hardware. I played farcry the night before fine. PC left on over night, next day I installed the latest 2.5.5.1 omega drivers over the 2.5.4.4 ones and thats where I thought it started..}}

If you think it's dead, send it to me. I'll pay shipping.
{{I'd like to make sure it's dead before I part! Can't afford another direct x 9 compatible card with potential yet!}}

EDIT-- ''

did you re-install Direct X?

{{No, but I did think about this. Though when I put my geforce card backin all was fine so I didn't think it was necessary. Ran direct x 9 test on ti card to and they all ran fine..}}

Thanks for your ideas though.

Will reinstate ati card and check heatsink and fan.
Also take to work next week and try in alternate machine, if I can.

Powecolor

My card is a Power Colour 9500 card with 128mb ram which previously soft modded to 9700 with no problems using 2.5.4.4 omega drivers. Even got 4434 on 3D mark o3, which was miles bettr than my nvidia..
