Painkiller Causes More Pain?
Painkiller, despite its name is one of the most annoying FPS I've played. Not only did I get stuck on almost every boss except the dude with the hammer and Alistor (Spelling?), I spend several minutes hopping around a map looking for one lone enemy who I overlook. I've gotten stuck in several places trying to get items... Stuck, I mean stuck! My guy wouldn't jump out.
Pros
The game was fun at first. All the people you get to kill and the physics make it look neat, especially with the stake launcher thing.
Graphically appealing! It looked very nice and the engine ran well (most of the time) with my 9500 PRO @ 1280 x 960 with high settings no (AA or AF)
The Variety of levels from snow to a castle was neat.
Cons
The bosses are horribly designed. There were only a 2 which I thought were fun, the guy with hammer and Alistor. With Lucifer, I had no idea you were supposed to repel his sword back at him. The swamp one was ok, but it was just plain boring. They need to give hints to these things and not just propel the player into a level with the boss and expect them to spend countless minutes trying to figure out what to do. Where's the variety of bosses? Just huge demons wandering around aimlessly while you figure out how to take him down... pfft!
Graphically appealing, but the game had slow downs for me towards the later levels where I was getting 20 FPS at some parts. The monastary level really hit my 9500 PRO hard in certain areas.
Where's the collision detection for the first weapon? I use the spinning shredder move where you hold the primary fire and then launch it with the secondary...and I'm lucky if I hit 3 people. I see the weapon go through the rest of the linup of people, but it doesn't do damage. That irritated me, because that weapon was really, really neat.
Would I play it again? Doubtful.

How much would you say the game is worth to you?

Hmm..
No more than $30 CAD $24.99 seems like a good price.
There's no depth into the game. What you see is what you get pretty much. I'd go as far and say, you should play it at a friend's house or acquire it through other means. (Hint, Hint, Nudge, Nudge)

No
I didn't try online, but I can hint to how the game is like.. If you tap the jump button while going forward, you jump faster and further..Like bunny hopping. There was a rocket jump button that could be mapped, but I didn't map it. The game is like Serious Sam, but a different theme.
Gamespot Painkiller Review
Gamespot gave the game an 8.5. But I would have given it a 7.8. Not worth an 8 in my opinion.

this game reminds me of some cheesy console game that you could finish in one sitting, cant believe i bought it,everybody gave this game good reviews, kickbacks must be pretty good.even x-play gave it a go,and if a game sucks they ussually let people know.and dont even talk about multi play, one of the worst experiences ever online.ANYBODY WANT TO BUY A FLAWLESS RETAIL COPY WITH BOX AND MANUAL FOR 15.00. later

I thought it was really quite playable, predictable but fun enough, nice GFX and some good levels. Too easy though, beat it in a few days - the bosses looked great but were incredibly easy.

Painkiller is about one thousand times better than Far Cry in almost every way possible.

Well, okay, sure, the graphics in Far Cry are good. Better than any other game out on the market now, for sure. But in almost every other way I find important, Far Cry fails. I haven't even played Painkiller much at all and I still prefer it. Of course, that's just my opinion based off of my preferences. I just feel that as a tech demo, Far Cry is awesome. But as a game, it is a failure.

Farcry is flawed certainly, but I thoroughly enjoyed it myself. some of the later levels are great. the last level was a massive letdown though. very few games now are wonderful if I was being honest, there is too much concentration on graphics, shader effects and the "wow" factor. We all know this by the fact new unreleased games have pictures circulating on many game sites long before the game is out - if the graphics in a FPS arent cutting edge - people say immediately "that sucks", thats how it works now.
Back to the point, painkiller was enjoyable too, but I have to admit, some of the levels bored me stupid and I was even watching the tv out of the corner of my eye as I was playing it. I guess ive a short attention span.

I played the demo, hated the game but liked the physics engine (as always, we've seen havoc in action a few times now). Altho, I'm currenty deep inside another horror game (a real one), Clive Barkers Undying. Picked it up retail for $12. Missed this game back in 2001, but O M G. I have NEVER played anything this scary. Awesome game tho, but its almost too much to play by yourself with loud sound and pitch dark outside.

now theres a game that was awesome...undying!!! that game was so freaky! put painkiller to shame.
painkiller is an enjoyable, thoughtless romp and so far i am enjoying it (if i can stop playing lineage2 long enough to play it more )
but farcry is leaps and bounds better than painkiller imho.

Undying, hummm I may break that one out of the archive. I did not have a machine that was very powerful when it came out but I remember the very erie dark atmosphere and IQ seemed ahead of it's time

You should, I was in the same situation (machine wise) when it came out.
It's an awesome game and w/o a doubt the most scary I have ever played.

Hmmm... I like Painkiller... Far Cry is alright, but it IS all about the graphics.
Splinter Cell and Far Cry are not alike at all!

i've heard farcry and painkiller are just displays of graphics, painkiller i know for sure cause i played the demo. it was just like a classic shooter with really sweet graphics. the bosses and gameplay was pretty lame, weapons look like something outta 1996 shooter

Haven't played Farcry, but I'm currently taking out Alastar in Painkiller right now (more like falling to my death every time the bastard breaks the 3rd floor no matter my life amount, oh well). I love the physics - shooting the creatures with the stake gun and watching their bodies hang limply from the wall. Too bad they disappear too quickly, I like walking over the large piles of 'tropies.' Like Ace Ventura 2 - "This is a lovely room of death." Graphics were good too.
On the other hand, the... not quite sure how to say it... was it collision detection... anyway, shooting the stake gun or the painkiller weapon in either mode often sucked as the weapon would seem to fly right through the side of the creature. Seemed to only work if it was a direct frontal hit. I'm used to dominating in UT200x in InstaGib matches and I had to get used to this - hope I don't suck at InstaGib now. Another problem was the amount of restriction that the developers would use during the game; almost every level was clearing rooms one by one. I'm an ammo freak - try to make every shot count and don't pick up ammo boxes if I can only hold a small part of it to fill up. That's one thing I loved about Doom, you could almost always find a weapon or health cache to run back to if needed.
