Problem with video card
I am having this problem with both the catalyst, and the Omega drivers. I have the Radeon 9600 Pro video card. I will install the new video driver and restart my computer. My computer will be ok, for about 30 seconds after starting up, then my monitor will go black, and stay black for several seconds, then come up and say that I have lost hardware rendering, and it has switched to software.
My computer will not allow me to play any games (black hawk down, Call of Duty etc). I will load up the game, I will see about 5 sec of game play, then my computer will freeze. And I have to restart. Any Idea what is going on?

I currently have 2096....I will try to upgrade. I have been hesistant about upgrading because I did it once, and it won't let you do system restore to a previous time after you made the upgrade, and last time I upgraded the service pack, while I was uninstalling it, my computer crashed and it woudn't start up, I had to reformat, and start over. It wasn't fun. Fortunately, I was able to save all my files.

ok, I installed the latest Windows XP SP2 Beta version, I installed the Omega Drivers. I restart my computer, and it still gives me the same error I got before:
"VPU Recover was unable to fully recover from a hardware deadlock, and has switched to software rendering. To restore hardware rendering, you must restart your computer."
And it still won't let me do any graphic intensive games. I have 1 GB of Ram a 1.8 GHz AMD Processer. 60GB hard drive, and WinXP Pro SP2 Beta.
any ideas?

OK, here is how I got it somewhat working I enabled fast write in my bios. I installed the Omega Drivers, and then installed the default drivers (that came on the CD) over top of the omega driver, but I did not install the control panel. Then it was still giving me some problems so I decided to take off my cover of my case, and place a big fan directly over top of the video card. It worked, and I was able to play for about 20 min before it locked up. I would like to play longer than 20 minutes, but I am ordering a new case:
Silver ATX Case, Side Window and side fan w/450 watts Power Supply.
Maximum up to 6 Fans (it already has 3 or 4)
4x5.25" Drive bays
7x3.5" Drive Bays & 2 Front USB 2.0
That should give me more power, and hopefully better air flow to keep things cool. Will that work?
Could something else be the problem? I might try installing the latest catylist drivers once I get the new case, just to see if it wouldn't' use the drivers because it was overheading....
Should I also order a PCI slot fan? or would that not be necessary?
Thanks for your help!

yeah... PROBLY!
even tho i had a mate who played with 250 on a Ti4800 for 1 year adn a half, it crashed. His dumbass warranty peopple gave him a 9800PRO... his motherboard burned down!
I have 330W currently and it ran my old GeForce 5600Ultra easily. However i switched to 9600XT and now I have small problems!
Good luck anyway. For qualty and cheap PSU's check here www.ebuyer.com
they have craploads of that stuff!

Good chance more power will help, but I ran into that last night with a friends 9600 Pro, it turned out to be driver releated in the end but he also has a sub par power supply, so I am going to advise more power in his instance

I didn't just buy a new power supply. I went ahead and got a new case with a few more fans. Plus it looks a lot nicer than my old case. (led lights etc) I hope between the more fans, and the 2x more power it will work.
