SB Live 5.1 Plat-need remote center. HELP!
My brother and my friend both have SB Live! 5.1 Platinums. For the life of us, we CANNOT FIND either original install disks. Without the original disk, the updated remote center will not install. Creative's remote center update only works if a previous remote center version is installed, which we don't have because the disk is currently on a "magical mystery tour". As it is, it's like the Live! Drive is not even there. This "need a previous version of remote center" stuff is stupidity on the part of Creative, IMO, because what are you gonna do with the driver if you don't have the card anyway. Nevemind the fact that the original driver disk was NOT for WinXP.
Through Creative's site, you can get every other facet of the card working without the original disk, but not remote center/Live! Drive.
So, does anyone know where I might be able to get a version of remote center that DOES NOT require the original disk to install, so I can update it to the latest version and get the remote center functionality working on a fresh setup? My bro wants it in case he reformats (currently, he DOES have the remote center working), but my friend just wants to be able to use the headphone jack and the remote center software activates the Live! Drive. Or am I missing something here?
Or at least provide some way to activate the Live! Drive?
Please help, my bro is blaming ME for losing his install disk for whatever reason (I have an Audigy, and I also have MY install disk ) and my friend says I never gave him the disk in the first place, which, in both cases, is baloney.
PM me if that is necessary
....maybe an iso of an SB Live! 5.1 Platinum driver disk or something? Preferably for WinXP.

Hmm... can't he just install Audigy2 apps on that Live! card? There is a sticky thread in this section explaining how to do it.
Not only that he will new stuff, but also there won't be need to update.

Both my Bro and my friend are total NOOBS. this line worries me:
Note that CL has abandoned official support for Audigy1/Live! in newer apps and drivers distributed with Audigy2, so this is unofficial and not fully compatible with both Live and Audigy1. Use at your own risk.
I just want the Live! Drive to function for them upon a reformat. I'm not saying that the FAQ is bad or won't work or anything, I'm sure it works great. I just want the most hassle-free way to install their stupid Live! Drive for them without having the original disk. That means having whatever the original disk had that lets the dang thing work. Besides, knowing my bro, he absolutely WILL NOT tolerate hacked drivers. Like I said, they are NOOBS and need the idiot proof solution. All my friend wants out of the whole Live! Drive is the headphone jack to work, he doesn't even care about the reest of it. As far as my bro.....he just wants it to work even though he has NEVER used it, EVER.
Thanks for the reply, but I need a simpler solution. One where I just run the exe (then possibly update it), say, "There you go", and not have to worry about it anymore. You know how it is, dealing with noobs.

This is kinda hard... there were some Compaq drivers, but IIRC those were for Audigy1...
Can you convince him to try kX Project drivers? It's around 3MB package (which is very small download compared to Creative), and he might like it.

I may have a possible solution......I may be able to get a disk.......uh......er.......well, I imagine you can guess the method.
Anyway, I'm hoping that will solve the problem. I'll find out soon.
Thanks to the dude that PM'd me. You know who you are.

Heh, yeah, there is more than just a little bloat in Creative's driver to be sure. I only install the necessary stuff and avoid as much of the extra fat as possible. Which is still too much junk, but hey, it's not MY card. I just have the basic Audigy.

I actually can't believe how they manage to consume so much space! kX has ~3MB and has a lot more features than Creative's drivers. Creative's driver only (no apps) is 12MB compressed.

The only thing that keeps me from using the KX drivers is the fact that they don't support EAX. I know that EAX is nothing more than echos and reverb effects mostly, but I rather like them.
Heh, it's kinda funny.....I've always considered Creative's Play Center to be one of those "bloat" sevices in their drivers. See how I am? The only stuff I use out of the Creative drivers are the mixer and the drivers themself. I only have the Audio HQ installed because it seems to require that to be there for whatever reason. I have....other programs that do more than what Creative's "bloat" stuff did. And they are more intuitive too.
OH! And in the case of my Audigy, I guess it installed the firewire support.....or maybe Windows just detects that and installs that software, I'm not sure. But that's about all I install from Creative's suite myself. Then I let it update whatever it wants at Creative's website.
In the case of the Platinums, they also get the Remote Center software to add the Live! Drive into the mix. ......which returns me to the original problem.....
As far as getting that install disk, I'm working on it. It's a slow, but continuous progression on that front.

They got some basic EAX support recently - you might give it a try if you want to.
