Kewl. A very clear guide you've done there wildchild. I've gotta send this to my co-workers so that they can finally see things other than Intel. Thx a mil!

I tried to make it as simplistic as I could....To where anyone (with limited knowledge)could actually do it themselves.

np,i don't have a preference for either i just goes for what i think is the best for me at the time of upgrades.
it will be good to see one for intel in the futrure then at least we can get good advice from both sides before choosing.

Thanx Jon.....doh
Personally, I balked at the idea, and preferred to have WildChild build me one. I have fried two mobos recently attempting to rework bios and install upgrading. I am an AMD fan now, and will download this for furture reference. 64 is the way to go!!!!

Good review...... only one part i can think of that's missing... and usually isn't thought of..... motherboard placement.... some weird cases actually don't setup there mounts correctly at all.. and some aren't even removeable..... most of the biggest problems come from OEM machines that specifically design the case/motherboard .... that you have to buy either the exact... or one of THERE motherboard to upgrade...... I showed my case but cutting.dicing.... and basically making a mess but useable mess out of it.......

I dont know what cases you have bought in the past, but I would say 99.5 percent of the cases purchased will have the correct placement of the mounting screws and if it is for some reason mucked up ...take it back and get a good one, as for proprietary boards /systems,thats not what this guide was made for.It was made for people to get a better understanding of building a new system from scratch, not mixmatching this and that and trying to make it work.

very easy to follow indeed. For those of you building p4 systems, everything is the same except for the heatsink mounting is slightly different.
